Compare Pro-96 with Pro-106. It's the same comparison as you want.
The 2096 is a mobile repackaged 96. 106 is a handheld 197.

Lots of differences. Newer is much better for many reasons (700Mhz, better sensitivity, more searches). You can compare the spec sheets. But the 106 and 197 are not just faster 96 and 2096. They are different. More capable but also harder to understand how to use well.
