When will I hear Skip?

I am Wondering when i Might get to hear skip againit has been almost 5 years since i heard skip last. Between the 26MHZ and 40 MHZ From The East Coast area. I live Here in Utah and when i last heard anything From the callsigns i have it seems to be New York Boston North Carolina Florida Areas I was Hearing. Does anyone Have An idea on What type of Conditions we have to be in or when the best Idea when we will hear this stuff. I was hearing it during the Day Between October and April.. But Not Heard It for a few Years Now...

Hopefully over the next few years. We need sunspots for the good F2 skip that you remember. But for shorter range sporadic E mostly happens during the late Spring and Summer months and again in December. From Salt Lake County I have been able to monitor all of the California Highway Patrol divisions and comms from Nebraska, Missouri and other parts of the central time zone via sporadic E.

Here's a link to a study done on sporadic-E propagation in the 28 MHz band.

The upshot is that sporadic-E occurs from eight weeks before the summer solstice, to ten weeks after. Best times are from mid- to late-morning and again in early evening.
