Hello all,

Newbie question here - I am looking to find either an Icom IC-R7000 or an IC-R7100 and I am wondering if anyone has any advise as to which one might be better and why. So if anyone has either one or the other of these receivers, and has some experience they would be willign to share, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

They're both excellent communications receivers. The R7100 is a much newer design over the R7000. The R7000 has fluorescent blue-green digits on a black background, where as the R7100 had an LCD display with an amber back light. The AC power supply on the R7000 runs very warm. If you find an R7000, it's very likely to need some attention, as some of the capacitors begin to fail at it's age, and sometimes a few solder joints need a little clean-up, and re-heating.

Most (but not all) R7000's were un-blocked in the cellular band. Most (but not all) R7100's were blocked in the cellular band.

IC-R7000 and IC-R7100 are THE SAME receiver.

The only difference is a new microcontroller that avoids the gap between 1000 and 1025 MHz and the need to push the "1GHz" button to allow frecuencies above 1GHz.

The RF circuitry is, THE SAME.

Anyway, a very good receiver, indeed ( I own one, http://personales.ya.com/LUIX/RF/ICR7000.html )

Buy the 7100 if you can afford the price increment.
