i have a whistler 1098 scanner and can get the same reception with or without a dicone antenna i hooked up above a metal roof using pvc pipe as the support runnning the cable back to my scanner. is the metal roof and or pvc pipe the problem or is my location approx 50 feet around the corner of the building away from the scanner.

What are you listening for? What coax are you using.
I never have an issue with my 1098 with an attic antenna. Reception improves when it’s connected to an outdoor antenna.
Even though a discone has no gain, there should be improvement over the indoor antenna.

How may accounts do you have?
when i was putting the antenna together inside about 4 feet from the whistler scanner i noticed frequencys comming over that i now no longer can recieve after i installed it in the aforementioned location. i listen to police and school district channels

how old is the coax ?
Are you using two different web browsers and/or computers? Log out of the account you aren't using like so...
Is your location within sight of any radio/cell phone towers? If so, your radio could be experiencing overload and de-sensitizing when connected to the discone outside.

I have had a 1098 for years and its a good scanner, Im thinking your issue is coax, something is off if with no antenna you are getting stuff you get with an antenna attached
