I like how the 800 shows "D2" for the phase II systems and how I can set certain channels to record instead of recording everything. I'll keep my 800 no matter what!

I have a PSR800 and almost never turn it on. Its not a bad radio but its goofy interface and slowwwwww startup time and slowwwwwww response in scrolling through the menus is a real annoyance to me.

I've got my 536 tweaked now so that it performs almost just as well as any scanner I own.

Seen this on the Radioshack site tonight. All say out of stock of course.

Whistler WS1025 Analog Desktop Radio Scanner. $139.99

Whistler WS1010 Digital Handheld Radio Scanner. $139.99

Whistler WS1065 Digital Desktop Radio Scanner. $599.99

Whistler WS1040 Digital Handheld Scanner. $599.99

They must be getting close....$600 bucks seems a pretty steep though.......

Wow, my first two cars were less than that.:(

"Automatic Adaptive Digital Tracking
When monitoring P25 digital systems, instantly adapts the digital decoder to the digital modulation format of the transmitted signal, then analyzes the signal over 50 times each second and adapts to any subtle changes caused by multipath or fading. No cumbersome manual adjustments are required."

Yup. GRE Whistler has the best P25 digital scanner on the market. "Automatic Adaptive Digital Tracking"

Is the "Automatic Adaptive Digital Tracking" something "new" that's not built into the GRE500 or the PRO-106? I have both and looked through the manuals and couldn't find anything on this.

It's called SuperTrack and it's not new at all.

But once it gets going the 800 is an awesum radio.

Your right. I'm sorry. I got out my old Pro-26,and took off the belt clip. It said it was made in the Philippines for RadioShack.

I did some research, and found out it was made by Uniden.portable s my favorite scanner of the analogue day's.

I thought that it was a GRE scanner. I was wrong. It was the fastest little scanner up to that point, and time.

Technically, you are both right. Radio Shack used the PRO-26 model number twice. The 200 channel 25-1300 MHz programmable model was made by Uniden. It was actually a better scanner than the Uniden branded portable scanner (IIRC BC2500XLT) from which it was cloned. The last crystal controlled portable scanner that Radio Shack sold was also a PRO-26 and was made by GRE. It was a silver color 4 channel model.

Changing channels is easier on the PSR-800 than most other scanners. Just a click of the button.

And which 'button' would that be? I have the scanner and am aware of its operation. With all my other scanners, I just rotate the dial to the position I have placed the channel I want in. With the 800 I have to scroll through menu system (several buttons) to the position that notsoEZScan has decided is the best place for the channel, since you as the user cannot sort talkgroups to your liking. And God forbid should you want to change Scan Sets and have more than a couple programmed, since it takes at least a solid second to scroll past each entry in the list, no matter how fast you click.

If Whistler loses the menu system only scanner operation that GRE gave us in the 800 and made some significant improvements in its ability to decode Phase I and II P25, then they might have a winner.

Whistler has a big opportunity now that Uniden has dropped the ball on their so-called "flagship" line of scanners. Let's see if they can play this one right.

Where is the Whistler "UPMan" when you need them to answer questions.

I made that suggestion on the Whistler Facebook page about a month ago. They put a post up introducing Wayne as their scanner guru. UPMan has mentioned him and says he knows a lot about scanners and that he learned a lot from Wayne.

Maybe he's reading the posts and just doesn't have any comments at this point.

Overall, Whistler's foray into the scanner market has been underwhelming to this point.

Yours would seem to be the minority opinion as there are a lot of positive reviews on the Uniden forum and the scanners seem to be flying off the shelf.
