Lindsay,

With Whistler updates no longer available would you be open to assisting a 3rd party or hosting the ability for Whistler users to resume getting updates? I would be willing to volunteer and format dBase files if needed. I am sure folks would donate or subscribe to the ability to continue use of their devices.

you are welcome to write me directly if you prefer non-public.

Brad@Trogdon.org if easier to locate.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

This was a service Whistler paid for, not scanner users. There are definitely work arounds until we know what is happening with @Whistler_Support . I think your efforts are premature at best.

If you would search the past posts you would see we have one already.
Sorry I assume you are a Senior Ham. Should have just said their is already a resolution. "Its posted somewhere but I am not going to share any useful information or details just because that's the way I am...". I have been searching for the best part of past two days and found nothing like you describe.

I have updated mine with a update manually so I am happy. I was reaching out to Lindsay to volunteer to help so others are able to continue receiving updates that were previously provided by the Mfg.

Brad the part you are missing is the part that the address for updates is in the Whistler Software which would require Whistlers Blessing to modify.
Not missing, Should be able to easily modify ez-scan and redirect to a working URL. They are out of business so no way to get a blessing and I am willing to chance any issues that may arise from "fixing" the now currently broken software. Just need the updated files to be awaiting.

That is what I am reaching out to Lindsay about.

I am glad you are a GRAMMER COP.
Far from that..

But an pretty sure my summary of your not contributing useful details to the community is pretty accurate.

-- Have to ask, would you help an old lady cross the street or just blow the horn at her because you can?

Will not waste anymore keystrokes on ya... Toot Toot....

RR Signed a Contract with Whistler I do not see Lindsay taking that risk. Just because they are not reachable does not mean they still do not own a US Patent.
For you information I have saved more lives than you will ever know over 40 years. We have already had the GRE Hack fiasco here.
I also help locals with scanners here at home for free some I have drove 80 miles 1 way.

So you are suggesting copyright violations, hacking software and RR violating contracts with Whistler, while not knowing the status of their operation and while there are easy workarounds any WS10xx/TRXx scanner user can easily do for updates.

Really doubt Lindsay would be onboard that sinking ship.

30 Second Search found this.
Ver 894 (nov 2024) is avaliable in the Whistler downloads, See the sticky at the top of the whistler group thread.

@buddrousa while this works for updates up to the date of the 894 DB, it won't work for future updates. However, downloading the system or agency updates from the database in CSV format and doing a copy/paste into the EZ Scan import format only takes a little while to accomplish and works really well, oh and it is totally legal.

Absolutely not what my post says. Copyright - Not remotely in play. Not suggesting reproducing or selling anything. Contracts - What contracts? you aware of or seen any? Workarounds - I guess you are referring to manually entering everything.
By the way, your link to posted updates has not had an update in months.

You going to brag that you help people too? Why not just try to help instead of stirring the pot and answering / complaining to messages.

In summary,

I reached out to Lindsay on the forum (Wrong thing to do) To inquire if he had considered a resolution to an obvious problem. I only have gotten prickly replies to bad and 1/2 information. put your recommendations to a test: Share the information you sent me to with your spouses and see how far they get in setting up a new flash card with current dBase files. I was only volunteering to assist in creating a long term fix for the greater radio community. You know what Ham Radio, Volunteering, Civil Service, Public Servants do....

And that is my point is people need to learn to feed themselves and not want others to do it for them.
My TRX-1 and TRX-2 are programmed by me with the TRX Software by hand as I find a lot of new frequencies before they are in the database.

Proud of you... You are good at saving lives and manually programming a scanner. Two out of three are not that bad but you suck at participating in a support forum community. Attacking others that are offering to help.

In my former live I too was Fire / Rescue, EMS.

The copyright violation you mentioned is bypassing software protections to prevent using other URLs being used to download the database, by reproducing the software so it avoids the security protections intended to prevent that exact thing. It has been discussed in details since the EZ Scan software came out that there are contracts between Whistler and RR which is why you can not export anything added to the EZ Scan database from RR. The workaround, as stated is the CSV download and import not manually, but maybe you missed that part of my post.

You going to brag that you help people too? Why not just try to help instead of stirring the pot and answering / complaining to messages.
I haven't "bragged" or even mentioned helping anyone, please do not put words in my mouth. And, I'm certainly not stirring the pot, unless mentioning why your idea isn't workable is what you consider stirring the pot, then I guess no one on the forums should ever tell anyone they are wrong.
