I'm currently using a WS1065 at my residence in North Western, NC and monitor the NC Viper P25 Phase 1 system. I'm located between two tower sites. If I wanted to program both sites in, how would be the best way to do this? Also would I select multi-site stationery? And last but not least would I want to select Check All Control Channels?

Assuming that you are between two actual sites, and not just two towers that are part of a Simulcast site, then program at least the control channel frequencies for each site into the TSYS. Remember that a site does not carry all talkgroups and all traffic for the system. Generally, a site will carry transmissions for the agencies that cover that area. (There are, of course, some that cover a larger area, or indeed the whole state, for emergency situations, but those are not normally used for routine traffic.) Having both sites programmed, you would hear the activity in your area.

If you set the site as Roam, then the scanner will check the control channels it can decode, and look for the best signal. If you set the site as Stationary, and select Check All Control Channels, then as long as it can receive them, the channel will check all the programmed control channel frequencies for activity. That way, you would hear any conversations for the two sites you programmed. That is how I do it on a system in a neighboring county that has multiple individual sites (none are part of a Simulcast site).

For a longer description, check this link to a place on the Easier to Read Manual. Look at the section titled Multi Site (Motorola/P25 Only).

We use the WS1040, the portable version of the 1065. You can program both towers under one input if they are in the same county. We do it for 2 counties by us. Input the control and alternates for both and set to roam. Set talk group is to wildcard and then either tl/o traffic you want to ignore and store the ones you want to hear.

If you put in a wildcard, the scanner will receive every talkgroup on the system, like public works and other things you may not want to hear. It is better to enter the TGID's for the talkgroups you want and forget the wildcard. The wildcard can be used if you want to check for any talkgroups not listed in the database. If you want to monitor things like public works from time to time, put the talkgroups in a separate scan list so you can turn them on and off. You can also put the wildcard in a separate scan list so that you can easily enable or disable it.

If I enter the TGID's for the talkgroups I want to hear, how do I go about deleting or turning off the Wildcard feature?

I have the entire state of SD multi-site system towers in mine. You can either set it to roam or stationary depending on your preference. I suggest turning on the check all CC's if set to stationary. Works great for using in a vehicles. Wild card works great for listening outside of your normal area when traveling. Just lock out the wildcard talk group when you don't want to use it.
