Just got my Whistler WS1095 Scanner and I was trying to update the firmware. I am using CPU Updater V.1.1 and my windows 8.1 Computer can not find any Com Ports. I went through the list and it does not find any? I think I need a driver? Also according to the manual, If I hold down the "Menu" key and connect the USB cord to the scanner, it is supposed to go into cpu update-which it does not? Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry for posting in GRE folder, but the Whistler folder is locked?

Thanks

Well I could not update my scanner because I have no INF folder. That folder does not exist in my
WS1095 folders. I read my SD Card and these are the only folders on the SD Card...
BTMP
CDAT
DB
LDB
MTMP
REC
STMP
config.bin
curvs.dat
In each of these above folders there is no INF folder or file?
Also the scanner does not do anything when I connect the USB cable or when I hold the "Menu" button.
I get no update screen.

Well I too have succeeded in turning a fine radio into a brick. The display says "no appl code! - waiting for USB". Without USB drivers , I can't do anything about it. I just wanted to make a backup card "In case". And ezcsan is no help. Whistler needs to offer a zip of the files on the card.

You really can't brick it permanently. Also, the "inf" directory should be on the included SD card from the radio. That's where the driver is.

I put the inf file in the root. After some time, Windows loaded the driver. then I ran the update app. The radio says it is in progress been over 30 minutes.

You need to be an administrator to install the driver:

These instructions are for the WS1080/PSR800, however work with the WS1095.

1.) When you are signed in to Windows 8 / 8.1 as Administrator connect the WS1080. It will then attempt to load the driver and appear to succeed but the driver will not be working at that point. Even though the serial driver is not correctly installed you will still see the scanner’s MicroSD card.

2.) Copy the INF folder from the WS1080 to a folder on your computer

3.) In Windows 8.0 While on the start load the Charms Bar by pointing the mouse at the upper right hand corner of the screen.

4.) Select Power and hit restart while holding down the Shift key.

5.) A selection of Troubleshooting options will come up, select the Troubleshoot option

6.) Another page will appear, select Advanced Options.

7.) The next page will display several repair options, Select the Startup Settings to change the behavior of Windows Startup and then click restart on the next page.

8.) A menu with 9 selections will appear. Select #7 or F7 to disable Driver Signature enforcement.

9.) Windows 8 will restart.

10.) With the WS1080 still connected open Device Manager from the Control Panel. Select the Com port assigned to the 1080 and select Update Driver.

11.) Select Browse and point it to the .inf file located within the INF folder you copied from the 1080.

12.) Install this Driver. An alert screen will pop up to warn you that this is an unsigned driver, Select install anyway. This will load the unsigned driver and allow it to work with EZScan

13.) Check to see if it is working by Starting EZScan and selecting Scanner SD Card and select to set the Real Time Clock to Computer time.

Go here: C:\Program Files\Whistler\WS1095\Drivers . Depending on Windows version and whether it's 32- or 64-bit, "Program Files" may be "Program Files (x86)". The inf file is in the driver folder.
