My village's PD has just moved from its own TG to a TG it shares with a few other PDs. I can get alert tones/lights on my 436 based on the settings for the PD's individual unit IDs but from what I see there's no way to set the 436 up to only stop on that TG if one of the village PD's radios keys up (that is, I can do ID scan rather than search to only stop for the TG, but it still stops for any activity on the TG). Admittedly it wouldn't be perfect as the shared dispatch UIDs also start the exchanges, but being able to stop on the PD's UIDs would at least capture exchanges starting with their calls to Dispatch or their responses to Dispatch. Am I missing something/is there a workaround not covered in the manual? TIA.

You can't scan for specific RID's, so you're stuck hearing everyone.

Understood, Kevin - thanks for the confirmation. The listeners were not consulted before this change was made :)

Basically your looking to have the scanner only play a tg when certain radios are operating on a the said talk group?

I do not believe there is not a way to set the 436 up to selectively play or block specific radios.

Thanks, Dave. Off topic for the forum, but been thinking about getting a G4 or G5 anyway so I'm going through the manual and installed the PPS to rummage through and see whether it might be possible for those units.

My guess is no, on the TRX-1 it allows you to scan for a transmission started by a radio ID, however, keep in mind, I said "started by". A group conversation is not started by RIDs they are started by TGIDs, only private conversations are started by a RID. I assume other scanners/pagers do it the same way.

I think it should work by entering in the TGID as i704853 Notice the lower case "i". Subsitude the UID for the one you want to monitor.
Set the system to ID Scan and avoid the TGIDs or TGID groups you don't want to monitor.

Maybe I'm wrong. Haven't tested it.

No worries, and thanks to all for the suggestions and insights - experimenting is half the fun. (Because the village PD radio traffic can be sparse at times I also put in the UIDs with that same 'i' prefix for the dispatchers serving the TG and still got absolute radio silence.) I'll just make a practice of being oblivious unless I hear the alert tone - ask anyone, I'm good at being oblivious :)
