Why do scanners seem to never loose their value?

They never lose their value because the seller is a ham. Who needs to invest in gold or silver, when you can sell ham radios

How much would a radio shack pro 652 go for today?

The Radio Shack pro 652 is the same scanner as the current Whistler WS1065 model, and the same as the older Radio Shack Pro-197 model, and the same as the old GRE PSR-600.

Check the Wiki listing here:

Current price for the WS1065 on the Whistler web site:

$349.99

I noticed that they are identical why did they make them with different names like that if they were exactly the same?

GRE from China first developed, manufactured, and sold the PSR 600 back in 2007. GRE also contracted with Radio Shack at that time to manufacture the same scanner for them to sell, rebadged as the Radio Shack Pro-197.

GRE eventually closed down and Whistler bought the IP and manufacturing rights and produced the same scanner naming it their model WS1065. Whistler then contracted with Radio Shack the same way that GRE did, and rebadged it as the Radio Shack PRO-652.

Both GRE/Whistler and Uniden manufactured many scanner models that were sold under the Radio Shack brand name.

Check this link for a listing of who made which scanners for Radio Shack:

The SDS series is the newest scanner and basically the only portable that has the simulcast/lsm issue solved. My system is extra heavy simulcast and it has no issues with it. Name another scanner that I can drive around with no issues.
Also, comparing cell phones that are released every year to a scanner that you can only do so much with.

To answer the OP's question, this and it's a niche market. Just try to get your hands on some ham gear for example used or new will set you back some money.

Just curious why is it that scanners especially the digital ones never seem to loose there value. like the sds100 it's like 6 years old and still the same price , I bought a samsung s22 ultra when it came out 2 years ago for around $1200 and it's about half the price now. i just don't understand is it the supply and demand or is it the license you have to pay for. if it is then why are these 10 year old scanners still calling hundreds of dollars? Thanks
Let us know about your resale value when your community LEA go full jackboot and turn on full encryption, which is most likely far sooner than you think? By that point, your scanner will be junk, no matter what you paid for it, or how old it may be! :poop:

Won’t be junk as it can listen to other agencies like air, DMR, NXDN, just no PD. It will be less though.

As long as folks keep paying the high price, no reason to drop it. Once that slows down, expect it to be reduced.

I'm sorry but that is not so, up here in NW WI they are encrypting everything, already the entire federal databases inside these extremely expensive devices are totally useless as they are almost everyone of them encrypted, including the forest service! Most of you, like myself, didn't/haven't paid attention to the speed, and the scope of the censorship afoot, and that is just what encryption is, self-censorship, and if its digital, its getting encrypted, across the spectrum! You may well have some time, but do NOT assume its to costly, I live in NW WI, one of the poorest regions in the nation, and they all now have the full capacity to shut you out, and about 45% are doing just that, with most of the rest getting ready too!

Lost Hobby?

Why didn't someone tell me this earlier!?

That's it, I'm going to my safe space to melt away.

It's only walking distance from my house. Coldest drinks in town

No doubt it’s coming. From what I have read so far, it’s mandated. These new systems do go down at times. When it does, they will have to use non encrypted frequencies until it’s back up. Another issue happens when the local agency brings in help from outside agencies. They do a patch, which is not encrypted, so those agencies can talk to each other. This happened when Minneapolis was burning. Minneapolis was encrypted when this happened. I was able to listen to most of the coms until it was over with. Maybe in the future that will be fixed but who knows. Maybe someone with more experience with P25 can chime in about this to explain why this happened. Not sure if responding agencies did not have the capability or not enough room on the encrypted network. I’ll just keep scanning as long as I can. When it becomes 100% encrypted, I’ll focus on other areas.

Look, I get it, you want things to be as they are, but bad news friend, they are not just encrypting LEA's, do think I am just making it up??? They are encrypting everything, its not all gone yet, but full encryption is undeniably the trend, everything, the police are lying their lips off about safety concerns, that is total BS!

Yet businesses and shipping concerns do have a case about protecting their product and employees, in LA they are not looting and pillaging police cars, chasing down cops and gunning them down, no, they are looting and pillaging trains and businesses, shaking down their employees, as a consequence they are locking down everything, and not just on the shelves, the trend is total encryption and its happening right now!

I'm sorry, but this site is actually shutting down its most valuable resource in this regard, discussion, such is literally oxy-moronic, geez I wonder why??? The only way this stops, id if Americans push back hard, because this ain't just about your entertainment, its entirely the shutting down of the 1st amendment, and its across the full spectrum, online speech, fake news, everything, they do not want us listening to them anymore, geez I wonder why???

I only say it because a lot of agencies that we all used to listen to have become encrypted. Not all of them are like this, however.
