Why do scanners seem to never loose their value?

They never lose their value because the seller is a ham. Who needs to invest in gold or silver, when you can sell ham radios

How much would a radio shack pro 652 go for today?

The Radio Shack pro 652 is the same scanner as the current Whistler WS1065 model, and the same as the older Radio Shack Pro-197 model, and the same as the old GRE PSR-600.

Check the Wiki listing here:

Current price for the WS1065 on the Whistler web site:

$349.99

I noticed that they are identical why did they make them with different names like that if they were exactly the same?

GRE from China first developed, manufactured, and sold the PSR 600 back in 2007. GRE also contracted with Radio Shack at that time to manufacture the same scanner for them to sell, rebadged as the Radio Shack Pro-197.

GRE eventually closed down and Whistler bought the IP and manufacturing rights and produced the same scanner naming it their model WS1065. Whistler then contracted with Radio Shack the same way that GRE did, and rebadged it as the Radio Shack PRO-652.

Both GRE/Whistler and Uniden manufactured many scanner models that were sold under the Radio Shack brand name.

Check this link for a listing of who made which scanners for Radio Shack:

The SDS series is the newest scanner and basically the only portable that has the simulcast/lsm issue solved. My system is extra heavy simulcast and it has no issues with it. Name another scanner that I can drive around with no issues.
Also, comparing cell phones that are released every year to a scanner that you can only do so much with.

To answer the OP's question, this and it's a niche market. Just try to get your hands on some ham gear for example used or new will set you back some money.
