All the reports of fake or phantom listeners on feeds at random times for no reason? Searching this forum it seems to have been an issue for several years.
For whatever reason it happens, how hard would it be to code the number of listeners cannot be greater than one per IP address?

It isn't hard, but it also isn't correct. 1 external IP address could be a NAT for thousands of users behind it.

All of that is a possible reason, yes. Large offices/companies may use a single egress IP depending on their network setup. My company does this for about 1500 users. Some ISPs also do that for their customers if they are behind a NAT because they don't have enough public IPs, especially with IPv4 addresses being in supposedly short supply. Even your house does this on a smaller scale, one wireless router can allow the two, five, ten people in your house to use your one internet connection (IP).

@AB5ID - Yes an office, VPN service, WiFi hotspot, personal hotspot, ISP, whatever Internet hotspot could have many people using the same IP address. Things are tight with IPV4 in that there are only just over four billion addresses available and those are used up pretty quick, so they are shared. One person could have dozens of devices that require a shared or unique IP address at any one time. While there are private subnets to help manage things, eventually a public IP address is needed for routing on the Internet for the data to route out and back. Fortunately, IPV6 was adopted and implemented years ago. Many people are using that and do not even realize it, which is they way it should be...seamless.

Yourself as well as many many others are not network savvy, so happy to explain things.

True that. With IPV6 we've got plenty to share for many planets, but the latency would suuuck for off planet server gaming, or streaming a Broadcastify feed. ;) If people think lag is bad now using a server on a different continent, imagine the lag from Mars back to Earth.
Good thing we won't have to worry about IPV8 anytime soon. :D
