If this question is in the wrong forum/place my sincere apologies …

I’m interested in the wide and sdr receivers offered on a well known auction website - in particular military airbase 200-400Mhz. This band appears to be blocked.

Can this band easily be enabled I wonder?

Not sure what SDR you're talking about and what your interpretation of 'wide band' is. Can you post a model number of one of the SDRs you're looking at on the auction sites?

Never heard of one with frequencies blocked. If you're interested in 200 to 400 MHz, then this £15 dongle should work out OK for you. (As long as you don't want to go below 25 KHz).

Realtek RTL SDR £15 Dongle Explored | Essex Ham

If you're interested in covering more than the VHF/UHF bands, then you can spend a little more. This £199.00 model covers Shortwave down to 1 kHz and has two receivers.

SDRplay RSPduo Dual Tuner 14-bit SDR Radio Board for Educational Application, Industrial Application, Scientific | RS

These devices must be plugged into a computer running the appropriate software in order to use them..

Ah.. The Malachite.. I wasn't thinking of stand alone SDR receivers that have their own display.

It appears to be a pretty good rig. There are quite a few YouTube video reviews you can check out. On the frequency lockout.. It appears none of them will receive 200-400 MHz.

At one time, I actually considered ordering one, but I have so much expensive 'stuff' collecting dust on the shelf here, I resisted clicking 'add to cart'. I need another receiver like I need a hole in the head. :)
