• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello gents. I picked up a like new RadioShack 19-1210 business band radio over the weekend. Planning to use it on MURS, I’m in the process of figuring out the programming process now. I have an antenna that came with a recent scanner purchase that I’d like to use, but I need help identifying it. I can make out maxrad on the base, but no model number. Under the antenna base, I see DC 207 and a couple other marks that I can’t make out. Does anyone have any idea what band this antenna is for, and if it can be tuned to the MURS band? It is an NMO mount, black loading coil, about 2.5” tall with a chrome band around the bottom. The whip itself is about 23”, and it has a spring. I would upload some pics, but the website keeps saying they are too big even though I’ve been doing the same way as I always have.

Additionally, does anyone know of a hardwire power cord for this radio? It came with a cigarette lighter plug, but I want to run straight to the battery. Thank you for any information.

The whip length sounds like a VHF 1/4 wave. The only way to know for sure what it's tuned for would be to use an antenna analyzer. But for the cost of even a cheap antenna analyzer or SWR meter, you can just buy several new VHF 1/4 wave antennas and not have any doubts.

That's not a Maxrad part number that I recognize, so I can't confirm that.

Just cut the cigarette lighter plug off and terminate the ends with what you need. No one should be using cigarette lighter sockets/plugs for radios.

Thank you sir. I wish I could get some pictures to work, I’d like to know what I have regardless, so I know what it can and can’t do. I may just end up buying a new antenna, but if I can us what I have, I will. Do you know of a cowl NMO mount for a 2009 Nissan Titan? I’ve searched but haven’t been able to find anything that will work.

Just buy the new antenna and enjoy it. You'd spend more on an antenna analyzer or SWR meter.
