Win 97 Program

Hello,
I just purchased the Radio Shack Pro 97 online...before I did I was reading all the posts on this unit...some people say its hard to program others say it is not. But most have said that the Win 97 program will make it easier. I know nothing about trunking etc..I wanted a scanner that I could monitor the State police...my current unit cannot.
How does the Program work?? Are all (national) trunked freqs. on it? Do I select which ones I want to program on my scanner?
I understand I will need a PC cable...which one??
Slowly, but surely, I am learning alot from this site.

You don't say which state.

No, you enter the frequencies (and talkgroups) used by the systems you want to monitor into the program by hand, or by direct download from this site to the program if you contribute (money) to the site. If you tell us which state, we can give you a link to the page for that state police system.

Radio Shack 20-289. Or follow the link from the Win97 page - there are a few others that will work. (The one Radio Shack sells with the CD will NOT work with the Pro-97.)

Ok maybe this is the right place for this post.
I have win97.
What i would like to do is set my scanner up so that the ID shows patrol, swat, IAD, etc.
If this could be done, How would i go about setting this up.
I have tryed so things but must not be doing it right.

You put those names into the Alpha Tag box for that channel or talk group.
