Does the "closed" checkbox in the Win97 application have any affect in a conventional system? I've been trying to get the help function to work within the program with no success. I suppose the box might only be there for the trunked systems and have no function on conventional.

PS. I hope this is the correct location for this question in the forum, it appears based on the description of the Win500 thread, that is all that will be discussed there and there is not another thread for other Starrsoft apps that I can find.

Thanks,

Tom

That will set the bank to open or closed.

When trunking, open will receive all TGIDs broadcast on that control channel, even if you didn't program it.
In closed mode, you will only hear the TGIDs you programmed into the bank.

No. Keep in mind that WIN97 merely sets options in the scanner. An open or closed bank in the PRO-97 has no effect on conventional channels. Check the owner's manual for the exact scanner you're programming with WIN97 to make sure that's how it works.

Note: Conventional channels in the PRO-92 (programmed with WIN92) ARE affected by open/closed banks.

It has for me when I program a PRO-97 with Conventional channels I enter the CTCS tone and hit close and it only hears the channel if the correct CTCS tone is present. It works that way with the 97 I programed for my brother the 97 I programed for 3 friends on my pro-163 my pro-96 my pro-2067 my pro-2096 and my new pro-197. If you put any of the above scanners in CTCS or DC search mode they hear all traffic and display the current CTCS or DC tone being transmitted.

I think it depends on the scanner actually. I was reading the easier to read manual related to the Pro-163 and it indicates that closing a conventional bank will scan and lock onto a frequency when either a CTSS or DPL tone is detected. Like I said, it may depend on the scanner itself as to how open/closed modes work on conventional banks.

That is what I was hoping was the case. I couln't figure out how to tell the scanner to use the PL.

Thanks everyone,

This is from the "Easy To Read Pro97 Manual".

It might clarify.

"Open and Closed Modes
Each channel bank can be set to open or closed mode.
In open mode the scanner will receive:

(1) all channels in AM, FM, CT, and DC modes, that are not locked out.
(2) all IDs in MO, ED and LTR modes, even if they are locked out in the ID list.
In closed mode the scanner will receive:

(1) all channels in AM, FM, CT, and DC modes, that are not locked out.
(2) only IDs in MO, ED, and LTR modes that are programmed into the ID list, and not locked out in the list.
In other words,
If you want to hear all IDs, scan in open mode. If you want to hear specific IDs, program them into the scan lists and scan in closed mode. If you want to hear specific IDs and not hear other IDs, program them into the scan lists, lock out the ones you don't want to hear, then scan in closed mode."
