They'll work in a pinch, but you can't install them if there is any of the metal film tinting in the window.

Have you considered a mirror bracket mount?

^^^ there ya' go ^^^

Get one of those mirror mount brackets, an NMO mount with the correct flavor connector on the end for your scanner, and take your pick of the wide selection of NMO mount antennas.

Just keep as much separation between the scanner antenna and any other antennas on the mirror (CB, Two way, etc) as you can.

I think you have several options. The 'best' (using that term very 'loosely') would be if you can drill a hole in that fiberglass roof. This is for receiving only so no metal "groundplane" is really needed, receivers just aren't that 'picky'. Then there are who-knows-how-many mirror mounts available. It's basically just a way of bolting an antenna to that mirror. A large gob of glue of some kind would probably work too, sort of. Are there any other antennas on that truck that aren't being used? You might try one of them too.
Have fun.

Have you considered buying an 18 foot whip, cutting it down to size, and mounting it like a cb antenna on the mirror mount.

I dont know what kind of truck you have but what I always done was run a ground from the metal on the mirror mount to either a ground on the door frame or back to the ground on the cb power ground lug. I have fixed many swr problems like that for cb's. Thats what I would do If I was still driving and wanted to do that.

You will use the cb coax to go to the scanner and then have an adapter for a bnc connection at the scanner. I have this setup on my pickup truck and it works good. Radio Shack sells the adapter.

Are scanners legal, in a "semi"?

There is no federal law against them also mine is mounted in sleeper area not up front I don't use it while driving just for being nosey while sitting at shipper's and receiver's

Was wondering about the tint I may try one anyway then in the upper bunk area windows that would get the antenna above the truck height just gotta make sure I don't go above 13'6"
