There always seems to be something going on , that offers some monitoring opportunities
Air race , air shows , fireworks grand prix, boat races etc , with our police going encrypted I figure an events thread would be a good place to share frequencies & compare notes

We have the Red Bull Air Races coming up,.. some past posted frequencies on this site last year were:
156.8000 Marine Ch. 16 Coast Guard Safety & Calling
123.0250 Air Media Helos
157.1250 Marine Ch. 82a C/G
157.0250 Marine Ch. 21a Belle Isle C/G
121.3000 Air DET (Coleman) Tower
119.0500 Air
126.6000 Air Race Control (tnx to VA3QRM for heads-up on this one)
157.1500 Marine Ch. 23a Detroit Sector C/G
123.4500 Air-to-Air chatter
157.0750 Marine Ch. 81a C/G
121.5000 Air Emergency (not heard today but essential to monitor)
157.1000 Marine Ch. 22a C/G Safety Broadcast
468.2062 Commentary (just hearing constant background music today)
468.3812 Commentary (just hearing constant background music today)

I guess they will staging in the old 401 hanger at windsor airport

Also I heard an aircraft today calling windsor tower on "pipeline patrol"? I don't think I have heard this before
didn't catch the registration

Good Idea Foe Hammer, Anything but Anything along the river and the Coast Guard is all over it. Lots of monitoring day to day too. Patrols, Ship Boardings / Inspections, SAR Cases, Training for all of the above. Or just listening to the Lake Freighters and Sarnia Traffic on the MVTS (CH 11 and 12).
I added a complete (if it is not complete let me know) list of channels used in the area. Also lots of gabbing on the marine channels during fishing / boating season. Banner towing planes are always talking to each other as they orbit large events 123. something. Search 123.000 to 124.000 you wil catch em. Family Service radios are sometimes worth a listen at events too.

United States Coast Guard
CH 16 156.8000 FM International Distress
CH 21A 157.0500 FM USCG Working
CH 22A 157.1000 FM USCG Working
CH 23A 157.1500 FM USCG Working
CH 74 156.7250 FM USCG PATCOM
Air Ops 1 345.0000 AM USCG Air Operations 1
Air Ops 2 237.9000 AM USCG Air Operations 2
Air Gnd 1 326.1500 AM USCG Air Ground 1
Air Gnd 2 379.0500 AM USCG Air Ground 2

Canadian Coast Guard
CH 81A 157.0750 FM CCG Working
CH 82A 157.1250 FM CCG Working
CH 83A 157.1750 FM CCG Working
CH 83B 161.7750 FM CCG CMB
CH 11 156.5500 FM CCG MCTS Sector 1
CH 12 156.6000 FM CCG MCTS Sector 2

Great ! thanks again for the marine frequencies , Im just getting started listening to the marine channels
& the banner towers can be quite interesting too ,..I remember in past years , them chatting while doing circuits & being concerned that there was alot of stray ballons floating past them from belle isle..
So far I have heard many times the coast guard tell people to take thier chatter off the distress freq alot I guess chan 9 is the new callaing channel rather than 16 , alo I remember years ago I used to hear the marine operator patch phone calls to boats , dunno how common this would be anymore with cellphones....

I heard the mayor on CKLW this morning talking about the strike , of the things mentioned it was said
that the city conducts surveillance & security & uses Windsor Investigation Services: Video Surveillance, Insurance Claims & Elite Security as well as one other 3 letter company that I cant remember had the letter "A" in it though , Now I suspect that WIS may be on the kelcom system using simple voice inversion , although I have not tried to confirm with the software prog that used to float around for that . I remember many years ago being able to hear elite but it has been some time since I have heard them , or any other security agency now that I think of it , other than the mall, anyway I have never been really good at digging in frequency searches , does anyone one know if these would still be monitorable & what freqs to try ?
pm me if you find anything & dont feel it would be wise to be public,..although Im surprised he mention's the companies & what they are used for,....

Ok was able to test a couple programs & although I cant confirm the agency , It appears to some type of insurance investigations , surveillance on weather or not people are really injured ,...not to exciting
So....moving on , I have been hearing the Red Bull race planes come in Sat June 6 & Sun June 7 , although a few more snuck in on the Friday I suspect , kept the radio & camera in the backyard to see what I could catch , still getting used to the digital camera ,I miss my old Cannon AE-1 anyway a few more pics not great, but I think you can make out the registrations so you will know what to listen for on the scanner ..
Oh & even while landing , they are hard to take a pic , they are unbelievably fast...

He forgot to mention Securitas Canada, that's the company I work for and my boss has been calling around seeing if any Chatham employees want to work Red Bull. Try Kelcom II system including Chrysler Headquarters, Securitas has the Canderel Building as a site and it's right on the waterfront.
And check the Michigan Forums too, that's where I got last years frequencies.

This is what I had from last year:
126.4000 Race Control
452.6000 PA Feed/Commentary

Some other freqs to listen to are:
122.8500 123.4000 126.5000 136.7000 120.8500 127.9000
These have been used in San Diego before.

gwtc199: I believe Race Control for Windsor last year was 126.600 (126.400 being San Diego). Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure. Anyone else remember??

They must have been using both then, Its still in my scanner from last year as 126.4.
I'll put both in to make sure though, don't want to be caught in the wind when I get there.

I was in windsor today and the pilots were up over the airport practicing, when I was there Michael Goulian was in the air.

Also saw & heard the practice areas active today, the Red Bull media chopper came in as well
was able to get a couple decent pics..it is fairly easy to tell when you listen to the radio if it is red bull aircraft as most of them have some sort of accent , they are from all over the place,...Also in the afternoon
while the Red Bull aircraft were tuning up & practicing ,..a us registered call sign N54 something I think using the pipline callsign again I think , called windsor tower with a mechanical issue & needed the nearest field to land , then tower lost contact with him ,...later on in the evening he came back up on tower frequency saying that he had to land in a corn field & that a cotter pin had worked loose from the throttle linkage , it was apparently fixed on scene & he took back off & came to windsor airport ,..I am unsure of of exactly where this was or type of aircraft , but he did say he was grateful for all the help of everyone involved & that he sure loves Canadians...lol
I'll try & listen for either the registration or the "pipeline" callsign tomorrow after work & see if I can look it up

Well I was bit confused to see the news that a red bull plane had also made an emergency landing
I did not hear that incident on the radio , the one I heard was an aircraft doing pipline inspection work
so there were actually 2 seperate emergency landings , these were the reports from am 800

"PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING
2009-06-09 20:35:29

A pilot from Missouri is thanking God after being forced to make an emergency landing in Lakeshore. A single-engine Cessna piloted by Chuck Wilson experienced mechanical problems late Tuesday afternoon. Wilson was forced to land in a corn field near Rochester Townline and the 3rd Concession. The plane wasn't damaged and Wilson was uninjured."

"2009-06-10 08:11:51

A pilot involved in this weekend's Red Bull air races has been treated and released from hospital after an emergency landing near St. Thomas. Peter Besenyei's stunt plane developed engine trouble about 2 p.m. yesterday. He tried to make it to the St Thomas airport but was forced down in a farmer's field. The plane was almost at a stop when the front wheels dug into the ground and it flipped over. Besenyei suffered minor injuries. Transport Canada is investigating."

you never know what you are going to hear

I had fun out there with my crew last year. The Saturday was a total sluff due to the wind. Sunday was nice and quiet. My MCP was a little down behind the the grass riser in front of Cobo hall, but we had enough telescoping HD cams to watch entire show.
We won't be doing that this year. RBR has their own tactical response units.

Canada, Eh!
Red Bull

Race Control is using 122.875 MHz. Was listening today, confirmed in the Michigan forum.

Found a new use for my Icom R8500. Using it to scan analog Marine & Air frequencies with an outdoor antenna (no overload issues).
