This will be my first winner storm in South Carolina

Looks like there’s going to be a lot of active radio traffic, so I’m ready to listen. We also have a backup generator just in case.

Quick question for anyone local in York, Clover, or Rock Hill —

👉 Do y’all know if the county or city activate an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during storms, and where they usually monitor or coordinate from?

Stay safe everyone, and thanks in advance for any info! 🙏🚨

Not from your area but during storms is a good time to search for new/unidentified talk groups. If your scanner has id search, try it.

Also not from your area, but in the path of the storm. (NJ). I search business band/intinerant frequencies for snow plow operators. I also monitor a local taxi company to get an idea of road conditions in the immediate area.

I also search through the 2m/440 amateur bands.

Happy monitoring and stay safe!

During any kind of serious inclement weather, ham weather nets provide good local information. Locally, tornados, severe thunderstorms, etc., always generate a weather net with contemporaneous local conditions (trees down, local flooding, etc.).

Scanmen34, There is a system in place in SC called SC Heart. VHF and UHF amateur repeaters will be linked to send and receive weather and other pertinent reports.
The map of all the linked repeaters (IRLP Status) is here:
Hope this helps and please everyone stay safe!

Made it so far with only a few power blinks. We got about 2 inches of ice but very little on the trees. I'm about 3 miles north of Travelers Rest off US-25.

We got hammered here in northern pickens county, I never lost power, but trees, poles and wires down everywhere. My 20 minute commute is now 45 minutes to get to TR for work as roads are still blocked.

Well, if the forecasts are correct, looks like SC is going to get at least 3 inches of snow this weekend starting late Friday night and into Saturday night. Some kind of "cyclone bomb"! I'm wondering what kind of plant or flower they will name this storm after? "Cyclone bomb", maybe some kind of mushroom, LOL!

All jokes aside, Everyone stay safe and keep your scanners and radios on!

I'm hearing talkgroup 28103 active on the Spartanburg site starting Friday evening. Communication sounds like military, I suspect it's being used by the State Guard. Database has that talkgroup listed as SC EMD Ops 3.

Still having problems with the Palmetto System and the control channel in Georgetown County. I had someone look at my freescan file and said it was fine

A few different ICE protests in Spartanburg last evening, more than likely National Guard.

Sounds like SC National Guard coordinating with the EOC regarding inclement weather shelters.
I don't think it's related to any protests.
