I'm in the Elk Grove (Sacramento County) area. I have a Uniden XL 245 which was working fine until about a month ago. While it still works fine in most areas it will only scan frequencies in the vicinity of my office - it will not scan ID's. At home or on the road it scans IDs' just fine. I spoke with Uniden about it and all they can tell me is that there may be some sort of interference in my office area. Not sure what it could be - I'm not aware of anything changing in the last month.

Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.

Is it possible your office is one of those "mostly" metal buildings. Mine wouldn't receive anything in a warehouse where I worked that was metal construction. Couldn't hardly even get a cell phone signal in there either. Just a thought.

There are no changes to the Sac County TRS that I know of. You may have had a cell tower go up somewhere nearby, considering the growth that EG has experienced in the past 5 years.

I get spotty reception on the County TRS sometimes, but if you were ok before and it's now not working so well, dunno. What antenna are you using?

I don't believe the problem lies within the building. It's a wood frame building and the scanner scanned ID's just fine in my office until a couple of weeks ago. At this point it scans on only by frequency both within the office building as well as in the parking lot. Once out of the parking lot it scans ID's just fine.

I using the rubber antenna that came with the scanner. Is there a different antenna I could try, without hanging an antenna on the outside of the building?

Thanks

Has the radio received any type of damage since when it worked and when it didn't? Like have you dropped it, spilled something on it etc?

If it hasn't, I'd go buy a telescopic whip from Radio Shack or someplace and see if that makes any difference.

I live in Elk Grove so if you need any futher assistance, PM me directly.

No change or damage to the radio. I'll try a telescopic whip antenna.

Thanks for the advice.
