The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Did you program the correct frequencies, including any repeater up-link frequencies ?
Does your agency use a PL or DPL code ?
It would help to know exactly what systems or frequencies you want to operate on.
(If you have not already done so, I would obtain written permission from the administrator of your rescue squad's radio system prior to transmitting on their frequencies).
Any transmission on amateur frequencies without a valid FCC amateur license would be a federal offense.

I recently picked up one of these radios to try out and it won't transmit lower than 420, regardless of how you set the band limits. Seems like either an internal un-adjustable setting or a hardware limitation.

I purchased a 350 to 470MHz split version from Wouxun US, used the software to open the limits and it transmits just fine from 350 to 470MHz. The more common 420 to 512MHz version will not go below 420MHz.

Maybe when I get home and closer to the radio and software I should PM you. I got the 380-470 radio and have the problem as described above. I tried two different versions of the aftermarket Commander software, and the "factory" software on the wouxun.us web site. I have several frequencies I'm licensed for, some in 413/418 MHz, and some in 422/429 MHz, and it will only transmit on the 422/429 pair.

Is it the USA version? Is it Type accepted?? = Then nope it will not work. You may get a few milliwatts.
Friend has the one from Powerwerx and only the receive is decently expandable.I wouldnt waste my time with a $99 radio, you want commercial ,buy commercial. The wouxun LED's die,the chargers crap out abnormally and if you drop it,toss it from what has happened to my friends.
My friend that dropped his bought another one! I told em not to,but he did anyway-

My TYT has similar limitations. It will receive many public safety and business freqs, but will not TX on anything outside of the ham bands. I think there may now be versions of these radios that will not allow the free transmission that some of the earlier models do.

They are designed to tx and rx over the specified range of 350 to 470MHz or 420 to 512MHz meeting full specs. They ship with only amateur bands enabled for tx to meet FCC regs. If purchased from Wouxun US or Powerwerx, etc they are FCC type accepted for part 90 operation.

They are not junk and I prefer carrying a Wouxun over my more cumbersome and expensive Motorola, Racal or Harris hand helds.

Wouxun radios IMHO are pure junk! Lots of my friends bought them cause they were cheap. Everyone's has either broke or almost burnt down their house!

One drop-in charger caught fire and burnt a spot in their kitchen table. Another radio my friend plugged in the external speaker, now the internal speaker won't work. Latest failiar for a Wouxun was the battery eliminator melted into their cigar lighter socket in their car.

If you have a Wouxun, PLEASE be carefull while charging the battery!! NEVER leave it charging unattended.

There is a reason these radios are priced so cheap. You get what you pay for. I tell people looking into the Wouxun to get the Yaesu FT-60. The FT-60 costs a little more, but there is little to no problems with this radio.

.

That certainly hasn't been my experience, and I have a number of friends with them too.

I wouldn't say they're the quality of a Yaesu, but, aside from some programing quirks, they're quite functional. My two Yaesus are getting very lonely sitting on the shelf.

I've got three battery packs that I rotate through. No problems. Also use it for satellite communications with an Arrow antenna.

Check out one of the Yahoo user groups to find out what the owners are saying.....

The FT-60 is a nice radio, but it's a ham radio. It's not legal on non-ham VHF/UHF frequencies. That sets the Wouxun apart - it is.

I messed up. OOOPPPPSSS

Ok guys, the radio issue was an issue with backwards frequencies. The list of frequencies I was given by my Rescue Squad Captian had the TX/RX frequencies backwards. I got that issue fixed. But now I do have another question. Some frequencies have DPL tones but when using the Commander Programming Software I am not sure which tone to use. The program has the regular PL tones then they have D023N to D754N and also D023I to D754I. If the frequecy I wanna use has a DPL 051 then what do I use?? Hope I explained this right. If not please let me know. I do have complete permission to use this radio for our department. Just for those of you that are wondering. :)

Thanks ahead of time,
Kevin

The "N" or "I" after the DPL code is for normal or inverted. If your list doesn't specify then try normal first.
I love my Wouxuns.

Just wanted to add one for the Wouxun...I have heard of a few issues with these HT's but I use "Few" scarcely...I have kept mine on the charger overnight every time I plan to use it the following day, never got abnormally hot, buttons and knobs all work fine even after not purchasing the programming cable and doing everything manually...I've used the DC batt eliminator attachment for mobile operations and the 1700mAh batt for portable field day operations from Powerwerx website, no issues during extended use, final will get a bit warm and I'm sure if your not a rag chewer and follow a sensible Tx/Rx ratio (2min Rx/30sec Tx), the HT should last you just as long as the others. Obviously this radio is not going to be your primary base station rig nor was it designed to be that so a $100 is a good price for a HT and I believe the other companies are over charging for their products...Think of it as an honest price to pay for a dual band HT instead of a cheap radio...

My Wouxun works great. In fact... better then any other handheld I have owned before. I've dropped it several times and even got it wet. It keeps going. The only bad thing I can say about it is the battery goes dead after about 1.5 days even when it is turned off.

After 40 plus years of warning people about buying foreign made goods, I must say that the choice between a Chinese made branded radio and a Chinese made Wouxon is not much of a choice.

So if I have to buy Chinese I will get the best value for the dwindling U.S. dollars I have. I have a Kenwood THD-72 and a ton of Kenwood and Icom gear. But to make a blanket statement that all Wouxons are junk is pretty silly. I worked as an Engineer for 34 years in the electronics industry and there is a thing called infant mortality, this is where things after a certain number of hours of use will fail.

And unless that cigarette lighter had a fuse as they all do, it would not happen as you explained. It would not melt, so I suspect a whole bunch of creative license on your part, or what we call Bravo Sierra (bullsh*t) !

Your starting comments wee that "everyone" who has bought a Wouxon "has either broke or almost burnt down their house!" is a bit suspect, if I am to believe your views then no Wouxon has every worked and yet the many Hamventions, swaps, QSO's I have attended were littered with nothing but praise for this Chinese product.

One will get a far better reception if they just state facts and not embellish things to the point that everything you say is suspect.

as far as carry I carry that Wouxon more than any other radio I own and I own a bunch, ye even more than the Kenwoods I have.
