• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Checked with Ed yesterday by email. He said Still no word on when the mobile will hit the streets. I have a programming cable for my kenwood V71A. wonder if it will be compatible with the wouxun mobile????

I don't think that cable would work, the Wouxun cable will work on the Kenwood TH6A. The programming cable connects to the mic and speaker jacks on the radio. I programmed the TH6A with the Kenwood software and the Wouxun USB programming cable

My buddy in Pa. wants to get an Wouxun HT. Home : Amateur Radios & Accessories : 1-KGUV3D
Dual Band 2M/440 Handheld Amateur Radio. Freq. range: 136-174, 420-470 MHz. KG-UV3D w/1700 mAh Li-ion batt. From Buxcomm.

Is the 1-KGUV3D the latest one of the HT's that has come out. Ed does not show a 3D. His latest is a 2D from what I can see.

You need to understand how Wouxun works. Each distributer can ask Wouxun to include "special" features foir them. The 2D is Ed's "special" model. No one else can sell it. It can have upgrades, etc; but the "model number" is made especially for wouxun.us.

Now the 3D is puzzling. From what I understand, Power-Werx were the folks that requested and were granted the 3D designation. Buxcomm should sell the 1D OR have their own "4D"

Very odd.

I could, for that matter, have Wouxum make me radios with the brand an model "JohnRadio XL1000" if I ordered enough....

no FCC approval yet. The Chinese (Asian culture tradition) do not want to say anything negative. It is bad luck to do so. As such, they will always word responses as close to positive as they can. For all we know, there aren't even any prototypes *to* test. Latest word was a May production date.

We will see.

Had our hamfest here in Fort Walton Beach. Hamworld was selling the 2D like hot cakes smothered in maple syurp. My buddy bought a 3D from some other company and has had tons of problems with it. Cable problems and audio problems. Don't know which HT to buy???

Either get the 2D or the vanilla HT. I have the latter and have not had a single problem except that 30 minutes after I use it, I need another qso.

This is sound advice. I've owned both the UVD1P and the 2D and really enjoyed them. They are not the most feature rich HTs, but they perform well for the price. Programming is a bit wonky, but you get used to it. I have heard other reports of problems with the 3D. As much as I like and respect Powerwerx as a vendor I'd probably recommend staying away from that one until they rev it.

I got the UVD1P, which comes fully unlocked. The UV2D comes locked to work on the ham bands only, but it can be unlocked I would recommend either radio unless you want the one with 2 mts & 220. The 3 must be having problems because the 2D & UVD1P both still sell like crazy today

Unlocked or not depends on your vendor. My 2D and 1P came locked and needed the software unlock. In any event, it is very easy to perform if you need the Part 90 / MARS / CAP freqs. You can get any of the models (1P, 2D, 3D) in either a 144/440 or 144/220 config (I haven't seen 220/440 available though, for any of the models). The different models are essentially the same radio, just different cases and very slight differences in firmware (nothing that effects basic functionality though).

I downloaded the software to lock/unlock the radios. I locked it to work on the ham bands only and locked out the rest to prevent transmission on the other frequencies. I have no need to transmit on those frequencies.

KG-UV920R "Battery Low" message

This may be a repeat question, if it is I apologize. I have a a Wouxun KG-UV920R-A Dual band mobile that I am using a s fixed station with a regulated power supply. Every now and then I get an audio message saying "battery low". I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and how they fixed it.
