I have a GRE PSR800 converted to the WS1080, as a mobile installation. I've recently switched vehicles and decided to revamp a few items, basically the amplified external speaker set up. I went with a Uniden BC23A speaker, but I am finding it to not be any louder than my previous installation of old beat up computer speakers.

This morning I switched on the audio boost feature in the radio for all items, but wont get to testing it until later today to see if it makes any difference. Are there any suggestions for something else besides the Uniden BC23A? I have also tried an old radio shack external amplified speaker, but it was basically the same audio level as the BC23A. I also looked at inline headphone amplifiers, but I don't want this to turn into some convoluted mess of wires and rigged odds and ends again. Running through the vehicle audio is also not an option in this truck.

If you are using the Legacy 800 headphone jack you need to use amplified speaker(s). You also have to match the 8 Ohms of the scanner jack with a 8 Oms amplified speaker (very important). I use a Speco amplified speaker which provides pleanty of volume. I tried Inland ProHT Pro Sound 2000 dual amplified speakers and they did not amplify the sound. I ran my setups past Whistler engineering who verified that the Ohm match of the attached speakers must match the scanner.

" you need to use amplified speaker(s). "

The BC23A is amplified, as well as the speaker I originally tried on this. Three different sets of amplified speakers that I have tried all had similar volume results. I'll look into the Speco brand, as well as try to research more about impedance spec's on everything. It must be that everything I tried requires a high impedance input.

Did your really read what I posted? You have to match the Ohms. Not all amplified speakers are the same Ohms. My Inland amplified don't work the Speco does. Inland Ohms are too high.

Here's what I used for my PSR-800/WS1080 when mobile. That's a Valor amplified mic--very loud without distortion, and the coiled cord let me easily & quickly place it near me for best listening. Having several batteries helped when I was on the road for extended periods of time.
