I am not too familiar with the SIRN system and this may be an easy fix, but I can't quite seem to figure it out. Anyhow, of all the sites I have added to my scanner it appears the only site that I can get a signal from is the Kenna tower in Jackson County. I consistently get 3-4 bars. Anyhow, I am only hearing traffic from some TG's and not all. I have noticed that the screen is only showing freq of 452.400 (most of the time). Does that mean it's only looking on that specific freq for traffic? I do seem to notice that I hear some other specific TG's like Charleston FD Disp when it shows 453.325. So, I guess my question is.. how do I get it to scan all the freq's for that site as I think it's only listening to one. I have went through the settings and all the freq's are there and nothing appears to be locked out. Are there any other setting that I need to run on/off? Thanks!

The scanner only listens to the control channel which is the frequency that is displayed while it is scanning. The control channel tells it which frequency to tune to when a transmission occurs and it displays the voice channel frequency. You will only hear the talk groups used by the unit which is affiliating with that particular tower.

What are "all" the talkgroups you are expecting to hear? Given that you said you weren't too familiar with the system, I just want to make sure your expectations are on target. Although it is a statewide system, you are not going to hear every talkgroup in the state from one location. Also, just because a talkgroup is in the database and is programmed into your radio, that does not necessarily mean that the talkgroup is used often. It might only be used as a backup to an analog system.

Having said that, if you have the state police Charleston Dispatch talkgroup in your radio, I would expect that you would be hearing traffic on it somewhat regularly.

fredva, basically just TGs in Kanawha, Jackson and Putnam counties. I am not hearing anything. Is it possible I would be getting signal on the control freq (which I guess is 452.400) but not the other freqs? Could that be the reason? I have tried it on Scan and Search modes. It was working previously and I am not sure what may have happened or changed.
