WVSP Unit numbers
I live in Danville, Va and I can on ocassion monitor the WVSP, mostly on 42.10. I am not familiar with how their unit numbers are assigned, and do not care about who they are individually, however, if they are like the NC Highway Patrol and desiginated by what county they are assigned, I would be interested in those simply to know how far I am recieving. Also, NC has speical desiginators for various functions (NCSBI all have the letter S in their number), the NC Dept of Corrections use four digit numbers on the HP freq's. Does WVSP have the same or similar numbering system? If so, I would like to know what areas are assigned what numbers. I am a legal US citizen, a Senior Corrections Officer with the VDOC, former deputy sheriff, and Assistant Fire Chief locally. I somewhat agree with the "Big Man In Green" but then again, scanners today are equiped with selective scanning, simply push police and they search all credible police frequencies. It would not be hard for a criminal or "crack head" to monitor such comms. And when you issue a arrest summons, Traffic or criminal, isn't there a blank for the officers badge or unit number? Virginia has such spaces on their summons. Also, when the officer arrest someone, I bet the criminal element could remember the unit number the dispatcher called when they were standing side-by-side. The sheriffs office I worked with, and if they had better benefits I would still be there, the SID (Special Investigations Division) used NEXTEL, and DVP (encryption) for their operations and they are not monitorible. Down this way, the drug dealers use NEXTEL, FRS, GMRS, and the "Dot" radios available at your local electronics store and even at Lowes. Our Narc's have Motorola FRS radios scanning for such counter-intelligence ops. Just food for thought of course. Lastly, if the WVSP 's new unit numbers are assigned by location, and if you trust me, please send a copy to

Thanks for taking time to read my thoughts on this matter,
