Are you sure that's WWV? WWVH (same service frequencies etc., but out of Hawaii instead of Colorado) uses a female voice so you can easily tell the difference between stations. See their FAQ for details --> NIST radio broadcasts

I just listened to 10.0 MHz and heard both voices, so no changes have been made. You're hearing Hawaii.

Due to our proximity to the CO transmitter, we can ususally hear the HI transmitter easier here in CO. :)

Strange, but true.

I lived in Brighton and was fortunate to get WWV 2500/5000. 10000 was almost always lost in the noise.

WWVH at 10000/15000 was a nightly visitor and at times very strong.

About 20000? I dont recall ever hearing anything, but where I live now, WWV almost S9 during good skip.

Ever hear Canada???

poltergeisty,

Yep, sure do! Some days, Canada comes in better than Colorado or Hawaii! It's interesting the way they alternate between English and French announcements every other minute. But, as you know, they're not on the same frequencies as WWV and WWVH. CHU Canada is on 3330, 7850, and 14670 kHz... :)

Colorado is nice...

It just ocured to me that one day we may hear a new voice from WWV.

En el tono, cuatro hora cincuenta cinco minutos. Tiempo universal coordinado.

poltergeisty,

Yeah, that announcement or this one...

Yo, at the beep, it'll be... hey, man, gimme another hit... oh, yeah, that's better... now, what was I sayin? :D

I'm about ten miles south of WWV, btw. :D

We took a driving vacation out your way a number of years ago. The first day we got to Colorado, we took the tour at Coors brewery in Golden (that's a really huge place!). The second day, we drove up to Boulder and visited the Department of Commerce Labs, where we saw the National Time Standard and the Solar Observatory there. That evening, we went to the Fiske Planetarium and Science Center and saw a very cool laser light show.

The next day, we drove up to Fort Collins and lucked out by getting a "private" tour of WWV on a non-tour day! The folks were incredibly nice to us, and showed me and my family the entire facility, including explanations of the how the transfer standards worked and everything else. The guy showing off the transmitters cranked up the 10 MHz transmitter from 10 kw to 50 kw for a few seconds while we were watching the power output meter on the front of the cabinet, just to show us that it could do it! They also had a spare transmitter sitting off to the side which was tuned to CB channel 19. They said they were currently using it to mess with truckers on I-25! :D

Needless to say, that was the most memorable tour of the entire trip, making it one of the best vacations we've ever had. Colorado is a really beautiful place...

Oh, that will come when "Cali" turns into its own country my friend.

Yep, sure is. But I've been here too long. I'd like to go to Alaska and check it out. :)

North to Alaska... ♫♪
