Colorado is nice...
It just ocured to me that one day we may hear a new voice from WWV.
En el tono, cuatro hora cincuenta cinco minutos. Tiempo universal coordinado.
poltergeisty,
Yeah, that announcement or this one...
Yo, at the beep, it'll be... hey, man, gimme another hit... oh, yeah, that's better... now, what was I sayin?
I'm about ten miles south of WWV, btw.
We took a driving vacation out your way a number of years ago. The first day we got to Colorado, we took the tour at Coors brewery in Golden (that's a really huge place!). The second day, we drove up to Boulder and visited the Department of Commerce Labs, where we saw the National Time Standard and the Solar Observatory there. That evening, we went to the Fiske Planetarium and Science Center and saw a very cool laser light show.
The next day, we drove up to Fort Collins and lucked out by getting a "private" tour of WWV on a non-tour day! The folks were incredibly nice to us, and showed me and my family the entire facility, including explanations of the how the transfer standards worked and everything else. The guy showing off the transmitters cranked up the 10 MHz transmitter from 10 kw to 50 kw for a few seconds while we were watching the power output meter on the front of the cabinet, just to show us that it could do it! They also had a spare transmitter sitting off to the side which was tuned to CB channel 19. They said they were currently using it to mess with truckers on I-25!
Needless to say, that was the most memorable tour of the entire trip, making it one of the best vacations we've ever had. Colorado is a really beautiful place...
