I have an old uniden wx100 weather radio that works well, the function I like the most is after the voice has read the weather alert, it goes back to mute. fully automatic operation. My question is alot of the new weather radios have the voice set at a 5 minute run time before they shut off, sometimes annoying to hear 3-4 minutes of wx broadcast when alert has been over, Why is that? Are there any that do not do this?

My guess is, if I'm making an alert receiver, and it 'overalerts' (too much voice)... big deal. Maybe you were down in the basement, out in the yard, and missed the first alert tone.
I have my weather radio (a radio shack weather radio/remote temp sensor hybrid) set to continually beep after an alert too, all I need to do is hit the button to silence it. This way, if I happen to walk in the door and hear it, I at least know an alert has been issued. (It's on the 2nd floor, and I dont always head there first )
I dont mind it. It's for safety, and too much is better than too little.

I also do not mind the radio staying on for awhile but I tend to disagree (with respect) on "too much". Without using SAME codes my radio will trip 15 or more times for one thunderstorm. Between the different warnings going on among several counties I became subject to the crying wolf thing. "Too much" was too much and I would start turning the radio off after about the 10 warning that did not apply to my county. SAME has me keeping the radio on all the time.
