How is the decoding for everyone else? For me it seems hit or miss. With our county transit system I am seeing the following:
Example 1: Per the scanner I have a full-signal and it'll really struggle with a decode. This is from a dispatcher too -- not a mobile unit. However, the next dispatcher will sound perfectly fine. I am the one moving and driving around. Decode rate is probably 75% give or take.
Example 2: On one talkgroup, there are roving mobile units spread over a ~15mi area and I can hear them perfectly just about every time. They are using mobile radios. I would say the decode rate (per conversation) is about 98% perfect. I'm guessing they have really efficient antennas.
Example 3: The mobile radios in the buses seem to have the worst reception. Signals are sporadic at best -- I would guess < 25% are clear. (I have a feeling the antennas are the blade-type and probably not the most efficient. I'll look more closely next time.)
In comparison to my PSR-800, the 996P2 sounds close but I don't seem to get the same decode rates. Overall, I would say the PSR-800 decodes at about a 90-95% rate. (The bus units always sound bad.)
I can provide sample audio from the control channel if necessary.
PS. When the decode turns bad on the scanner, the ERR value is in the 40-50s range.
