• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got a new XG-100P. There was a small one pixel line in the middle of the display and ever since it's grown larger and stretches to both sides of the display. I also noticed that when I turn the backlight off and shine a light at the display, the line isn't there. Can anyone help?IMG_7814.jpg

If that dead line doesn't grow and has some acceptable display, my advice is don't even mess with it. The problem is likely the ribbon connecting to the controller board. It still means swapping out the display and a task that can put the best of the best techs to the test.
I won't touch it, they usually go bad to worse.

It's been said the same screen is used in a portable GPS so replacements are out there. But as Merlin said you better be an ace tech to pull off replacing it. The internal ribbon cables are beyond fragile.

Seconded. Not to mention, the ribbon on the screen itself is very thin and prone to easily tearing.
Third. I have rehoused two XG100P units now, and I have damaged a ribbon cable each time. It also appears that NLT no longer carries the replacement cables, so if you damage one, you're cooked.

NLT just sold a ribbon to an associate of mine last week, so he had at least one yet :)

However, I forth the recommendation to just leave it alone.

I was sold the "last" Unity Flex Kit they had. From talking to the sales and service person (if you have dealt with NLT, you know who I am talking about), she said they are limiting sales on some parts they can no longer get because they do still have contracts to repair some of these units for agencies that haven't upgraded yet. With proper prodding, you may be able to get some of them, but it sounds like the supply is running very thin. I also asked if she knew of anyone other than them still supporting the XG100 and I was told there is no longer any official support and parts aren't being made. I have no reason to believe she wasn't being honest. I am glad I got a few spare sets before the supply dried up as I also have been rebuilding these for a couple of people I know.

They are really good units if you know how to very gently service them.

I've heard rumors there are a couple of enterprising people looking into fabbing new flexes themselves. I don't have any information other than that though. But that is only useful for the side buttons, UDC and front keypad flexes.

The flex on the screen itself (which, while it doesn't get brittle, is thin easily tears if extra care isn't used) isn't really replaceable.
