• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I’d save the headache and cough up the dough… but that’s just me… also the fear of bricking a $1000+ piece of discontinued equipment gives me nightmares
I did end up buying one a few days ago. Just waiting for it to get here.

Is it hard to make the cables? I like building things, breaking the radio doesn't bother me. I rarely use it as it is, just wanted a project to make me get to using it again

Would you say it's better to make the xg-100p update cable, or better to buy it?

Depends on how confident you are in your construction skills. That diagram posted in an earlier message gives all the details needed to build a usb programming cable so I’m going to do it.

So I got the cable, but can't figure out why it's not being seen by the computer.

Plugged it in and I don't get a com port or "unknown" or "installing...".

Do you have any idea what might be needed for it to work?

You have to have the XG-100P connected and turned on before the computer will recognize the cable and the radio is connected.

I have the radio connected and then I plug it in. Nothing happens, or at least nothing that I see. RPM doesn't let me read/write via usb.

Might be you missing the drivers...Look under program Files and you should see Harris radio usb drivers
I have the folder there with the following files - https://prnt.sc/20y0l6j

You can confirm the Harris USB driver files are loaded by looking in your C: drive under Program Files and Harris Radio USB Driver.

There was a batch of cables that were bad.

It should be in the folder with the RPM files, in the Harris Radio USB Driver folder. Make sure to use the correct file for your operating system

Not the folder on your C: drive. The folder of RPM files that you used to install RPM.

Just to confirm, you are using the Unity Product Management tab, in RPM, to program the radio, correct?

I ended up have an operator error lol.
Figured out I wasn't clipping it INSIDE the top before screwing it in
