The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Been having some issues with my department issued Motorola XPR 6550 VHF HT. The HT gives me busy tones when ever I try to chase someone on foot and transmit. On every other professional series radio I've used and even my Wouxun (the way I have it programed) that would mean someone else was already transmitting. However these radios will give the connection chirp to the repeater even when someone is already transmitting.

Complained about it only to be told its the "operator" not the radio. They let me trade it in that time but am still having the problem. They still think I'm the problem and not the radio.

The first time I kept the same lapel mic because they spares didn't have any. I'm using the department issued lapel mic and holster for the radio BTW. The setup works the rest of the time and I've only experienced the problem while running. Supervisor thinks nothing is wrong with the radio and believes I'm hitting other buttons or the holster (he issued me) is the problem.

JFYI I'm not new to radio's and started working in LE in the 90's. I have a HAM license and been asked to help instal lights and radios in the patrol cars at this department. Not to mention being "asked" to show supervisors MULTIPLE times how to down load pictures and videos etc yet when I have a problem with radios I'm an idiot.

Any one have any ideas or suggestions? My apologies if the post came off as a rant just wanted to let you know what I'm dealing with.

Already looking for a new job. :)

We need some more information.

First, what kind of system is it? Digital conventional, Connect Plus, Capacity Plus, or analog conventional?

Are you using an RSM or the radio itself?

Many things can cause the issues you are describing, including how the XPR is programmed in the CPS to allow transmission (admit criteria specifically).

The "connection chirp" is known as the talk permit tone, and again, depending on how the radio is configured in the CPS, the talk permit tone can sound even on simplex.

Also, if this is a NEW system, it may not have adequate body worn coverage. Try using the radio without the RSM in the same "foot chase" scenario (easy to do without an actual event, just "pretend" and see if you can reproduce the problem)

I know it's digital and believe it to be conventional.

RSM

They had the system, for some time, before I started.

He gave me a different radio to use last night. I tried to replicate the problem again last night on a back up channel. With the RMS removed it worked fine. When I pressed and held any of the other buttons on the radio and pressing the PTT had no effect on it or on the RMS When I shook the RMS and pressed the PTT it did it again! However I couldn't get it to do it again after that.

The other officer I worked with last night had the same thing happen to him except he was sitting still when it done it to him.

Are you using the PMMN4060 public safety mics? (antenna on the mic, shorter straight cord?) There isn't much to mess with on the mic itself obviously other than the volume rocker, emerg button and PTT. From what you are describing it sounds like something within the mic that only acts up during vibration (such as running). Maybe swap mics with another officer and try a test that way? See if the issue follows the mic.
