• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not sure that this is a MotoTRBO issue..... I don't have any such issue with any of mine, anywhere from 0 to 4 bars. Have 7550e radios and a mix of 5550e and 5550.

Must be nice. . .
Been having these issues regularly on numerous radios dating back MANY firmware versions. I started using the TRBO radios around either high R01 or right at R02 and it was going on at that time already.

For clarification, I only notice this with simplex. I don't recall ever having this happen on a repeater, except when in the fringe, and NEVER on digital. As I mentioned above, it seems like a problem with the radios presumption of what the RSSI is because it will suddenly mute and resume scanning with one or two bars still showing. At other times one or two bars will come in fine and is often readable. Basically what K2NEC also described.

I just reread the OP's first post again.
I have the bandwidth set to 25 for the channel in question and I compared it to another XPR7550 (not an e) with the same exact channel specifications (bandwidth 25, etc etc.) and that radio does not have any cut off.
I could be mistaken but unless the NYPD weaseled their way out the narrow-banding mandate in 2013, you need to be using 12.5kHz NOT 25kHz.

NYPD operates in the T-Band, which was exempted from narrowbanding by FCC waiver two months after the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 was passed by Congress (i.e. the legislation which calls for the T-Band giveback). No one "weaseled their way out" of anything.

Well, I just learned something! I only deal with VHF High so didn't know that.

Yeah...I wish I had an answer for you. I use analog simplex on these radios all the time, probably more than I do digital, and just don't have that problem at all. I don't know what the issue might be.

I've worked with all manner of TRBO radios over the past 8 years (as part of my job), analog, digital, repeated, simplex, etc. The only time I've had obvious problems, were when parts failed or there were alignment issues. I suggest putting your radio on a calibrated service monitor to see how it functions when you can completely control the RF parameters and compare to your other radio.

Agreed. It helps to turn scan off but still, it takes a hot minute for me to see what channel I am on if I go too fast.
