• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I purchased 2 XPR8400 off Ebay. These were from a large IPSC system. I bought them for mine and a friends churches. I am a former Motorola Tech, but it's been about years since I left that industry. My copy pf Mototrbo CPS was version 11. I had no idea if it would even read these repeaters. Much to my surprise it did. So I deleted the digital channel and added analog channel and didn't expect it to write but it did. Everything OK except no TX output, I can hear the TX on my HT, but it acts as though the PA is inhibited. Both repeaters act the same way. I then noticed that the code that was in the repeater was version 13. So found and bought version 16 and now have that installed on laptop, however CPS 16 won't detect the repeater and of course CPS overwrote my old version 11. I am wondering if a firmware update would bring things around. Anybody that has an idea would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have bad PA in both. They are just two mobiles in a box, switch them out (PA in receiver is good) don't forget to move heat sink & reprogram.

Well familiar with what's inside. I suppose both could have PA failures, but his reviews from other purchasers would reflect that he doesn't send out junk. Searching, I have found that a corrupted code plug can cause this and one of the symptoms is that the ID doesn't work and that is the case here. As I said I have updated to CPS 16 and now CPS is not detecting the repeater. When I got these I had no idea what version CPS had last programmed them. My old version of CPS was 11 and the code plug in the repeaters was 13. I was surprised it read and wrote. In the my long past I remember us getting shipments of Trbo radios in, that we couldn't program because the firmware was newer than our CPS. That always resolved in a couple days when our new CPS arrived from Motorola. That was back in the days when the new version was sent out on a CD. I was pretty well convinced it was the PA also until the second repeater did the same thing. Which was a bit strange. Tuner showed no faults in either repeater. My biggest problem now is that I can't talk to them with CPS. Having to replace the PA's isn't ahuge deal, not being able to program them is.
