To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I trying to program a couple of xtl5000 and one xts5000 for radio call from a list. I just want to be able to sent an alert to a single radio that it has received a call without alerting all radios in the group. I am using one personality for Astro and three for conventional. I have several analog only HT1250's so I need a analog personality so I can call/page or alert. to the HT1250's id possible. At one time I had them working on the XTL/XTS and one ASTRO Spectra. I could alert a single radio and it would continue to beep until the Mic was keyed up on the target radio. Some how I have managed to un-program that but I dont' know what I did to do that. Also, I am having trouble with assigning Call/page buttons. I add them in the CPS but they only show up on the ASTRO personality. How do you get them to show up on the analog channels. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated on this. Thanks

Make sure signaling is set to MDC, PTT ID is enabled, call alert encode and decode are enabled (personality > MDC), and assign an MDC call list. Come back here if that doesn't get you anywhere.

I have the radios set as you suggested. Let me go in dept on what I trying to do. I have two repeater channels with talkaround, and one Non-Astro channel separate from the repeater pairs, a total of 4 channels. I also have on channel set up for digital ASTRO call. The ASTRO call channel works great on the XTS,XTL, and the ASTRO Spectra. When a call/page is sent, they beep and display the callers ID. But on the analog channels they beep one time and that's it. I am also having trouble getting the call/page options to program into the XTS 5000. I can get them to show up on one repeater channel but not on the other channels. As for the XTL5000, channel 1, repeater, has the call only option, channel 2 analog, call only, channel 3, ASTRO, call and page, channel 4, analog repeater, call and page options. I can't seem to get everything on the same sheet of music.

I am back with another question. I have solved most all of the problems listed above but I still have one that I just can't figure out. I have the XTL's programmed so they can send a Call Alert to each individual radios, even the HT1250's. This is not a group call but all radios can receive the alert, Radio emits a beep and Say's "Call Received" they will beep until target radio is keyed up. But for some reason I can not get the HT1250's to send a call alert to the other radios. When I send the call alert, the receiving radios receive and emit a two tone paging alert. I am trying to set things up so that if a operator gets out of the equipment for some reason, he can see that someone tried to call him while he was out of the cab. I have tried every programming combinations that I can think off. They all appear to be programmed the same but I have missed something.
