The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Woke up this morning to my XTL5000 stuck in a reboot loop after flashing SELF CHECK... 01/90. It just keeps rebooting repeatedly.

The RF deck isn’t warm, so I’m suspecting a power issue. The 15A fuse is fine, so that’s not the culprit. I tried programming via J2 with a USB cable, but the radio isn’t recognized. Could it be an onboard fuse failure?

I’ve had this unit for a long time with no previous issues—it’s always been stored in a cooled closet. I’m worried the RF deck might be fried.

Model: M20KSS9PW1AN (Mid Power Brick)
Control Head: W9 (Tested and working with an 800MHz brick)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Something in the radio has failed. If it won't talk to the outside world with any programming method, it is a doorstop

If you can get it to talk to the outside world, one can try a recovery in CPS. Most likely, EEPROM failure and what he said, chunk it and find a new one. These relic radios are dying of old age/EEPROM failure as most are approaching 20 years old soon.

Interesting It's not that old i think it was originally purchased in 2011? Maybe 2010. I wonder if trying a comport instead of usb might help or replace the chip.

After some more research, seems like either a fuse or other component issue. The rd deck isn't receiving any power and i tested my supply/cables with another unit and it works fine. Tempted to see if there's maybe corrosion too somewhere but I'm gonna start to test all connections on the board to find a fault. I will keep this updated.

01/90 in its simplest form is a communications error between the head and deck. Do not discount the head, remote cable, TIB and flex from the board to the TIB. Of course it could also be the drawer, but we have had all three of the above fail and the board in the deck be just fine.

The VRMs on the main board could also have failed. We have seen that too. One stringer we maintain once popped about 10 XTLs in his car by being nice and jumpstarting another car.

Fuse on board seems to be fine. Seems as if maybe theres more issues.... Gonna try a serial cable instead of USB so maybe we can read the brick

Mind you im using a W9 control head and it wants me to try and use a O series. I might buy a dash config O5 and see if i can do it that way.
