Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have an XTL5000 that ADP will not work for some reason.
Flashcode: 500008-000484-6

The radio acts like it has no idea that ADP is activated in it. Updated the firmware to the newest version and that didn't solve the issue. Receives clear channels no issue. When it tries to receive a channel with ADP it knows it is receiving but doesn't decode and pass audio. The encryption symbol does not appear either.

I have never seen this before and I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are all devices in the encrypted group using the same Key ID and key value? And just a reminder that encryption is illegal on
Amateur Radio, FRS, GMRS, and MURS.
Yes they are all using the same key

Its not even showing the slashed O ? or any LED indicator? on receive of encrypted transmission? It set to ASTRO receive? thats weird, maybe try reloading the firmware again

What happens if you put in the wrong Key ID/key

If you're not seeing the Ø symbol on the display when you're on that channel, then something isn't setup correctly in the codeplug. Let's assume that you know ADP only works on a P25 channel, so you need to have the personality set for ASTRO TX/RX. Do you have the conventional personality strapped for Secure mode, or do you have it set to Clear or Select? If it's set to Select, do you have a SEC menu item to toggle between modes? Finally, is the channel using the correctly personality? If all of that has already been gone over twice, then something might be wrong with the radio itself.

Encryption is not illegal on MURS. Motorola RMM2050 comes stock with a voice scrambler. However, new devices that feature encryption will not be type certified. So the only legal encryption on MURS is on devices certified before the Part 95 reform. Also, the man asked a question about ADP - not where ADP is allowed ;)

Encryption is not illegal on MURS.

To expand on this, Scrambling is not equal to encryption. Scrambling is an analog privacy system and still uses the allowed emission designator of F3E, in order to use ADP (or any P25 based encryption algorithm), you must use P25 which is not legal on MURS as it is an emission of F1E which is not allowed as a valid emission on MURS. Interestingly enough AM is allowed as is frequency modulated data (as long as the data packets do not contain voice frames).

Designator Common name
A1D Amplitude modulation; on–off keyed or quantized; no modulation; Data, telemetry, telecommand
A2B Amplitude modulation; Digital, with modulation; Telegraphy for machine copy (RTTY, fast Morse)
A2D Amplitude modulation; Digital, with modulation; Data, telemetry, telecommand
A3E Amplitude modulation; Single analog channel; Telephony, voice, sound broadcasting
F2B Angle modulation, straight FM; Digital, with modulation; Telegraphy for machine copy (RTTY, fast Morse)
F1D Angle modulation, straight FM; on–off keyed or quantized; Data, telemetry, telecommand
F2D Angle modulation, straight FM; Digital, with modulation; Data, telemetry, telecommand
F3E Angle modulation, straight FM; Single analog channel; Telephony, voice, sound broadcasting
G3E Angle modulation, phase modulation; Single analog channel; Telephony, voice, sound broadcasting

So frequency inversion (scrambling) would be perfectly legal, any form of digital voice (including DES-XL, DVP etc) would not be as they also utilize F1E emissions.

Now to go find an AM MURS radio lol. CB part 2!
