• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just received a XTL5000. Astro 25 CPS 20.0 installed and the cable read the XTL5000 perfectly. I am having only one problem. I bring up the O5 control head in CPS to program the softkeys and it is only letting me program the emergency button. There are no other drop down menus on any of the softkeys. I am racking my brain to try to figure out what's going on. Have you had this issue or heard of it and corrected it. I have a feeling it may have something to do with Windows 10 rather than the radio itself(Which is working perfectly).

I have attached a picture so you can see what it looks like

Does anyone have any ideas? I have run CPS in Compatibility mode (Win 7, 8, XP) to no avail. Everything else is working fine

Your CPS is working fine. The only button you can change the function of is the emergency button.

The softkeys are used for your Menu selections. Add functions to the Menu list and they'll appear on the soft keys.

I find the lack of documentation of this particular CPS frustrating(yes there is a help file but sometimes its no help). Leave it to Motorola to put a picture of the control head but have only one modifiable feature. I worked hours on this..haha.

The answer was right in front of me the whole time.

Thanks for the reply, It really helped me out!

I mean, the APX and Astro Legacy CPS is laid out exactly the same when it comes to programming menu items.

Now, if you were using a W series head you'd be able to physically assign a function to a button location. Odyssey series heads allow for scrolling pages though which is why the function was placed in the menu list.
