• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I installed an XTL5000 with a W4 control head in my truck a couple weeks ago and I can't seem to get it to work. The first time it powered up fine but said "key fail." I went back to turn it on a couple days later, not having messed with it at all, and it gave me an error code FL 01/90. Looking online, it seems like this may be because the control head isn't communicating with the brick. I checked and tightened all the connections and turned it on again. Now it powers on but the screen flickers XTL5000, then beeps and goes blank. The control head stays on but keeps flickering. The guy I bought it from said it may be because the head isn't getting enough power. I tried hooking up the power cable to a 13.8v 30A power supply but the radio won't even power up with that. Anybody know what's going on with it?

Try this. Go to Radio Configuration -> Secure -> Secure Configuration and uncheck "Secure Equipped" in the General tab. Re-write your codeplug and see if that solves it.

It seems like the brick isn't powering on so it wont read the radio in CPS. Using a serial cable.

If you're trying with an external power supply make sure that the 12V for the ignition sense line is being supplied from the same source. For example, if you have disconnected your truck's power from the brick to use an external power supply, but the ignition sense line remains connected to the truck, then it won't power on.

Did you check power to the brick ? If there isn't 12V and ground the radio wont power up. Make sure you have a good ground and not via the antenna cable.
Checked all the connections again and it's wired properly. I checked the terminals for the power cables on the radio end and their reading 13.8v. I did order a new OEM power cable so I guess I'll see if that fixes anything. I borrowed a friends XTL5000 with dash mount and that wont even power on with the cable I have.
