• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I want to make sure I have the correct control head sync file.

I have an XTL5K UHF-R1 with FW R20.50.10. Does this sync file Astro_25_CH_BR.cvn dated Jul 2016 match the injected FW 20.50.09/10?

XTL boots up. Error FL 01-90 then reboots into Maint. Mode. Neither the OEM USB-GCAI or the OEM USB to rear accessory cable will read/write the faulty radio.

So I need to use OEM RS232 to rear programming cable? (I have all 4 OEM programming cables for XTL's/PM1500)

Power connection, ground, TIB, 03 HHCH, cables, power to board/brick, etc all check out OK. From memory it needs a control head change in CPS and then a control head sync....

I don't wanna brick this thing ;-)

THANKYOU in advance.

To answer my own Q and for others... YES this Astro_25_CH_BR.cvn file is for both FW versions.

I found my long lost documents in archive.

Check your flex cable from the TIB to the brick. Make sure it’s seated properly.
THANKS :)

I've played musical chairs with TIBs, local control head, flex cables, etc. Always comes up FL 01-90 then reboot in to M-Mode.

Does same even with local M5 CH attached.

I haven't attempted CH sync yet.

The M5 control head only works on an XTL2500. Unless you modified it. That may be your problem.

My bad, I should've explained: I was looking for "mismatch", but that didn't happen. Still came up FL 01-90 then reboot in to M-Mode. I will modify M5 and try in any event.

To boot, XTL won't recognise either of my OEM USB cables. Injecting CH sync file is challenging. I have RS232 OEM cables, AFAIK, only early versions of ASTRO25 CPS or D use RS232 cables.

THANKYOU for your help though!! :)

When I fix it, and I will.. I'll post back.
