To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if its possible to determine if an XTS-3000 is in "scanning mode" or not.

Here's the situation:

On our Kenwood Radios, the green LED flashes intermittently, letting us know that the radio is in scan mode. However, on the XTS3000's - there is nothing to alert the user that the radio is actually scanning. (Model 1 type radios - no LCD Screen).

Having said that, how can one determine (without keying up another radio on a different channel) weather the radio is actually scanning or not? Is there a setting that can be changed in CPS somewhere?

Thanks,

What model? Model II and III have a Z icon on the top of the screen. If its a model I really without playing with the switches and buttons the only other way is to see in the CPS. Yes it can be changed in the CPS. I have all my XTS's on the ABC switch A is scan B is PL on C is PL off monitor

Unfortunately, I don't have any physical indication (via the way of Icons, flashing led light, etc.) as far as I can tell.

If anyone knows of a way to program this in CPS - OR - alternatively, if I can program the button so that when it initiates scan it omits one beep, and if pressed again to terminate scan, it omits TWO beeps (or something to that effect), it would be much appreciated.

Surly I can be the only one whose ever encountered this.

Best,

So you are saying that you have a model 1 radio (i.e. no keypad, no display)? If that is the case and you don't have a use for the encryption key (concentric switch around the channel knob), then make that your scan on/off switch. That can be a good visual indicator that you are scanning or not.

Beeping confirmation the way you describe it is not an option on an XTS3000 radio.

Hmm....very interesting. I'll have to look in CPS tonight when I get a moment to see if i can figure out how to assign that to scan. That should (at least for now...we're not encrypted...yet).

Many thanks.

xts3000 type I

I have my xts 3000 type I set up that way, that concentric switch is actually really nice to have set that way. It's real easy from the cps to do it you just go to the switch and button assignment tab and set one mode as scan on but there is no scan off setting but obviously if it's not on then well it's off so not a huge issue. I have had my Type I for about a year now and love it, hoping to get a type III someday

I'd be interested in an answer to this too -- I have an XTS1500 Model I and the concentric switch is needed for the zone selection. It's impossible to tell if the radio is scanning or not. Is there an option for this in the CPS? Thanks!

Well I came up with a very clunky solution. Program channel C-1 with a personality that has a scan group with no channels to scan. Then if you switch to that channel, it will beep if the scan is currently on (low beep indicating nothing to scan), and if the scan is off you will hear nothing. Not great, but at least lets you know if the scan is set on or off.

Thanks for your input.

I'm currently in CUPS and for the Concentric switch - I have Position A as Programmed and Position B as Scan; however, regardless of what position the switch is in, the radio continues to scan.

Am I missing something?

One position needs to be set to blank and the other to scan.

I don't have an option in CPS for blank; only "unprogrammed" (which is what it is currently set to. "Programmed" re: my last post was a typo).

Best,

You can have the radio do a short beep when it hits on a priority channel or talkgroup (priority 1 or 2):

Scan tree, scan config, check PRIORITY SCAN ALERT

On the XTS1500, and all Astro25 products, check "scan alert tone". This will cause a "low-high" tone for scan on, and a "high-low" tone for scan off. This is unfortunately not available on the Astro (3000, Saber) line.

Thanks ResQGuy. I tried that on the 1500 but I just get a single beep whether scan is going on or off, not the 2-tone. I have alert tones and scan alert tone enable set, not sure if I'm missing something

David, does your radio have firmware higher than 10? The unique Scan Alert Tone was enabled in 10.0.0.
