XTS CPS software

I am trying to read my XTS5000 on cps R17.01.00, and when i hook up the radio to the computer and turn it on, the driver software does not download to the computer and says windows does not recognize device. i am using all oem parts. any advice

Being OEM on all, I would make sure your windows is upo to date and has if xp service pack 3 minimum and any other updates. Vista, 7 those I would keep current. If you used any other cps prior remove it by uninstalling, restart, install 17, then restart. The driver issue is probably from a service pack you dont have or a driver in the cps most likely did not get installed correctly. If its OEM and from /\/\.

i have reinstalled already. i have been able to read other radios. is there a way to download the device driver from motorola.

you may be able to get them to post it to your MOL account, but you'll most likely have to call them on Monday and open a support ticket to get it. I checked my MOL as I have a current subscription for both Astro 25 Portable and Mobile but don't see any USB drivers. They might be in the download itself, I don't have my install file handy to check.

Are you just needing the proper device driver for a USB programming cable?

If so, you probably need the one for the Prolific PL-2303 chip set which seems to be the commonest set around these days for USB cables.

Just close any other programs and then install this driver. Then go to the Control Panel and select the Device Manager. Plug in your cable and the system should see it and assign it to a Comm Port. Make a note of the Comm Port number.

When you fire up the CPS, go into the setup or preferences and make sure you're using the right Comm Port.

That should take care of things. I've had to do that for several different PC's and CPS's.Every time, installing the Prolific PL-2303 drivers solved the problem right away.

He's using a USB cable not a USB to serial adaptor.

All he needs to do is select USB in the CPS and the cable should work.

Normally you would install the CPS, plug the cable and radio in, wait for Windows to recognize the radio and install the drivers and then fire up the CPS.

Make sure you select Read Radio and select the USB port.

Sounds like Windows might not be finding your radio.

You might want to check the Windows Device Manager and see if the radio is there. If it is, try uninstalling it and see if it asks to install the drivers.

The drivers are usually in the program directory.

Both types of cables use the Prolific Chipset. All of the USB cables I have here performed poorly, if at all, until I installed the Prolific drivers.

FWIW, the drivers that come with aftermarket USB cables generally don't work so well with Motorola CPS's. I tried them with little or no success. As soon as I removed all of them and installed the Prolific driver, everything started to work properly.

I have the same problem and i tried already with the prolific driver without solving it.

This issue forced me to go back with the old serial cables since last year and the problem es with Windows Vista 64 bits, because i havent had the same problem with other pcs

When i plug in the cable to the pc, windows doesnt recognice the hardware and what is expected to ocurr is that the radio sends out the driver or what ever is needed by the pc
