• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello
A few weeks ago I installed Astro 25 CPS for my XTS2500. All worked well until a week ago. Now windows does not chime when the 2500 is connected. And of course will not show up under COM ports. Maybe 1 out of 20 tries it will chime up, then chime down. That's it. I have tried the radio and cable on my sons PC and works great.

I think the drivers are at fault. Maybe needing RDX ? Any help would be great. Thanks !

Which Astro 25 CPS are you trying to use with your XTS2500?

That is the version release of a specific Astro 25 Portable or Mobile CPS Application. What I would like to know is which application of the Astro 25 CPS are you using? You're leaving out the main ingredient that is specific to the radio type. Is it the Astro 25 Portable CPS or the Astro 25 Mobile CPS. They are specific to either a portable or the mobile. For the XTS2500, you can only use the Astro 25 Portable CPS application for the XTS1500, XTS2500, and the XTS5000 portable type radios. The Astro 25 Mobile CPS application would be used for the XTL1500, XTL2500, and the XTL5000 Mobile type radios.

In other words, you cannot use the Portable application for the Mobile Type radios and you can not use the Mobile application for the Portable type radios.

With the CPS launched and the radio turned on and connected to the programming cable, go to the "File" pull down, and click on "Read Device", and you should get the "Select Port" box; you should see "USB" with a white background, click on "Ok"; are you getting an error saying "Radio is not detected from USB port?

If the radio is turned on, go through the steps again until to get to the "Select Port" pop-up, firmly squeeze the programming cable connector that is connected to the radio UDC side connector to ensure that it is making full contect with the necessary pin contacts between the radio and the cable connector, and then click on OK, keep the firmed squeeze on until you see the "Tree View" box pop-up and don't let up on the squeeze. If you let up, the radio will hate you forever and will die permanently and become a paper weight.

With some radios, the programming cable connector will not make a tight connection with the side UDC connector.
