• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just wanted to verify before I do something that ends up costing me more money: I have an XTS2500 coming that has AES enabled with a preloaded key. If I used ASTRO25 to write to the radio it should not overwrite the key correct? Or am I stuck using FPP to ensure the key doesn't get deleted? There's no no trunking or other advanced programming; just basic simplex with encryption. Reading the radio, editing the CP and writing it back should do what I need it to or will I need a KVL to load another new key? Thanks in advance!

Im sure if it coming with a preloaded key it was probably programmed with infinite key retention.

You will need a KVL or other tools to load the key into other radios.

That's fine, as long as the key doesn't get deleted when I write to the radio I'll be happy. When I had my XTS5K's they had ADP software and that was more than sufficient for my needs. I just don't want to have to sit there for hours programming three radios via FPP just to maintain the key haha. Thanks for the info!

I re-write and reconfigure 2500s all the time and have never lost a key during the process.

I don't believe hardware encryption touches the codeplug no? that only the encryption tool can talk with the encryption chip and it isn't bothered during normal CPS operation

If you accidentally uncheck the infinite key retention then loose power the key will be dumped.

Hay stop don’t change the encryption tape from hardware to software. If you do that you will lose the AES-256 keys. I did that ones to play with ADP. Had to get the KVL to reload my AES key.

Yep, wasn't planning on that lol. Part of the reason I bought these was the hardware encryption being enabled already! (not like I need this high of level of encryption anyway lmao!)

Awesome, I'll be sure to remember that, thanks!
