To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all, I am attempting to use the emergency mode on my 3 XTS3000 radios in conventional mode. However, whenever I trigger the emergency mode on analog, instead of giving that "beeeeep" tone the other radios just un-squelch the MDC burst. When I try it on P25 mode it does nothing at all, giving only a microsecond of tx that only my scanner picks up as a random signal.

It's really annoying because I've tried everything: Modat, MDC1200, sidetones, exc...
If anyone can help i'd really appreciate it.

Disclaimer: No this is not on a trunking system, public safety/federal, exc..

By saying you are trying to get the radio to "beeeeep", do you mean you are trying to get the radio to emit the evacuation tone? If that is what you are trying to get, you can try keying up, then push the emergency button, assuming the 3000 supports that feature and the radio is properly programmed.

Are you saying you're trying to get a receiving xts to alert upon receipt of an emergency packet?

What exactly do you hear/see when you receive this emergency alarm? What do you hear the radio users alongAre you receiving it on a scanner, or on an XTS?

All I hear is the MDC burst on both the scanner and the radios as far as analog, on digital I get nothing. I want it like the police have it where there is an automatic tone that signifies an emergency and the EM: id that pops up. I set the em id and emergency id in the MDC window.

Your talking about the tone that goes off every 15seconds when dispatch has a 10-33? I thought that was done on a console, not the radio its self.

I used to be a Security Dispatcher at Motorola and our 900MHz radios had the button, sometimes referred to as a 'man down' button by our local PD. What this button did was, besides scare the crap out of you when it was pushed, alert the dispatcher of a problem. We had a screen that would go bright flashing red and all radios that were on the same channel would automatically switch to the main channel. If you are talking about a tone that beeps every 15 sec or so to indicate that the channel is 'hot', this is a function that is tripped by the dispatcher or as Avanagh said was a console function.

Ahh I see, so there is no real function of the button in simplex mode. Hmm that seems odd but ok. Thank you for the clarification I was very confused before.

The emergency on P25 is different than using MDC emergency on analog. I think it is in the astro system tab under conventional. I will look at work today and give a definite answer later.

Open Conventional Tab in the tree view.

Then Open Astro Systems

Then Open Astro System and open the Astro System you have selected in your personality that you want emergency to work.
