• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know of the FPP XTS2500 radios that had no working LED for the PTT, had max power out of like half a watt and were for the military but never seen these before.
You are thinking of the PRC-153. It was made to limit light emissions, no TX/RX LED, and the back light was NVG compatible. Pretty sure it is 4w capable like a normal XTS2500. They had a conventional flash(due to FPP). Normal XTS2500's could be bought with FPP as well.

Once Depot was leaked, it was easy to tell the teknisuns that were messing with flash codes, because you would see 800MHz radios with FPP and FDNY rxtx tones or what ever it was together. Or FPP and 9600 baud trunking. Or just every damn option turned on.

Did you measure the power out?
Mine arrived yesterday also, the TX out was 9mW and 2.2 (yes I accounted for the loss in the cable with the 3920B). It was just over 1 k off freq and it did have pry marks on the bottom of the case, but I'm not complaining for a 22 year old radio.

Mine had four channels in the first zone, it was 410.3625/419.3625 with DPL for the analog and NAC 023 on the digital channels.

Did yours come with a secure module installed ? In the CPS the “Secure Equipped” box was checked but I have no idea what’s in the radio without opening up the case. My case is mint and I don’t want to chance messing up the case since my XTS case opening tool is long gone haha

I’m guessing it’s either AES-256 or DES-XL.

My guess is that it was a Diplomatic Security Service radio, based on the frequency and low power.

Some wonder why we say radios this old NEED alignment to actually work. 1KHz off is just how far out of whack old radios can be. a freq error of 50Hz is bad- this is astounding.
