• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

hey all, Im looking for a XTS4000 UHF codeplug. I had the radio for quite some time but put it away for awhile. Recently, I picked it up again to mess with it but unfortunately my laptop, along with the codeplug data is gone (friend borrowed it but passed away, dont know where his parents live) I dont recall the password for reading and writing but Im sure I can eventually figure out the password. Is there a way to upload a new codeplug through the CPS or make a copy of the codeplug from the radio and modify the codeplug via hex to remove the password? from what I understand, you can do something similar to this with the XTS5000, and from what I hear, the XTS4000 and XTS5000 is pretty much the same radio internally. what are my options to resolve this? radio works fine, i just want to be able to access it again and reprogram some frequencies. I do have a newer version of the CPS, would that be an issue? the radio has R19, i have R20. i wasnt sure if the radio and cps has to match in order for me to modify the radio, i assume i would need to upgrade the radio first to R20 but I cant do that unless I have access to the codeplug

I would recommend you sending this radio to someone that knows what they are doing with it.

Sending you a codeplug will not solve your problem.

I found a way with hexedit to pull the password and access the radio again to read and write, problem solved. My big thing now is doing the firmware updates. I recently found out that if I use the spicy version of CPS, the firmware updates don't really count without using the ibutton. I don't really know if that's true or not. I thought the spicy depot would bypass that all together

It does. A FW update is a FW update no matter how you do it.
I was talking to a radio tech who has much more experience, but I think he might have confused what I was talking about in regards to zipflash (not doing that). He was talking about how it doesn't count unless you do the ibutton thing to make it official so it might not have cleared the bug fixes. I straightened it out and I think you're right on the firmware thing
