• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ok I fully understand non affiliated scanning. I have it set up on my xts5000 800 and it works flawless. From what I have read it's more touchy with vhf, referring to the band plan. I have seen a few forums on the band plan I'm looking for and have inputted what I have seen but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the entire picture of how it works.
What can we unwrap here? There's more than enough folks on here willing to help figure anything out. The bandplan is what the radio uses to calculate the traffic frequency to switch to from info the control channel transmits to the radios. VHF & UHF are different than the standard 800 bandplans you often see. Are you also sure of the control channel for the tower site(s) your looking to receive? The control channel could have changed from the frequencies listed in this sites database, I have no idea but it sometimes happens. Dump all the listed freqs for that site into the control channel box, could be more too. that requires an FCC lookup for each site. I also see that STARS has some two different sites in the same county

I have put all the control channels in and they are all from the same location. It looks like all the frequencies are still active. So here is a link to vsp and they have a band plan. I don't know if this will help, this seems to be the only thing holding me up. Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) - The RadioReference Wiki

It took 23 posts for you to tell us where you got the band plan info.

Now, post a screenshot of the band plan info you have in CPS.

Maybe we can help you get this resolved before we reach post 43.

So I just found this link to the stars band plan. Mine is not based off this, so I guess I really don't have a band plan then. And it's hard to find info on how to make it. I'm assuming what I've done doesn't qualify as one. So please go ahead and roast me and then if yall aren't pissed at me maybe someone could just break down how to do it based off the link I put up. Or should I just sell the vhf and stick with my xts5000 800.

You're not going to be able to monitor STARS with an 800 MHz radio. Unless you're close enough to a trooper using his portable on a VRS.
It would help if you would just post up the band plan you're trying to use in your radios programming. Without knowing what you have, we can't tell you what you need. Just stating that you used the bandplan from the link provided isn't enough for us to help you.

Have you posted something in the Virginia forum asking if anyone either (1) has this info already, or (2) has Unitrunker or Pro96Com and can run them for a few minutes on a STARS site and send you the bandplan info? Attached is a screen shot of a bandplan from a 700/800 system in Unitrunker, it would display the same type of info for your system.

Regardless, you really should consider ordering a couple RTL SDR dongles from here, once they arrive get them setup with Unitrunker (join the Unitrunker google group to download the latest version 2 release, it's free). Then you can analyze & log a whole bunch of info about your local site(s) 24/7.

I have the band plan. I asked you 30 some posts ago to show us what you entered in CPS and I could tell you if it is correct or not. As did a couple other people.

I realize you did. I am slightly embarrassed because I don't fully understand it and all I had in there was the voice frequencies and the Channel spacing. I was trying to figure out how to do it and not look like a dummy. I have since deleted everything out the channel Id tab until I do get it figured out. Up until this post started I didn't know I needed specific info in there because I'm use to using my 800 and not vhf

Ok, your right. Thank you. So where do I go from here? I need to order the sdr dongle and find the offset frequency? Or do I just ask you kindly for the band plan.

The band plan is right there in the link to the database.

I've copied it for you. Here's the pasta.

IDEN Table (Channel Plan)

  • Line 1 - FDMA Base:851.00625 Spacing:6.25 kHz Offset:-45 MHz
  • Line 2 - FMDA Base:762.00625 Spacing:6.25 kHz Offset:30 MHz
  • Line 3 - FDMA Base:136.00000 Spacing:2.50 kHz Offset:0.9 MHz
  • Line 4 - FDMA Base:146.00000 Spacing:2.50 kHz Offset:0.9 MHz
  • Line 5 - FDMA Base:156.00000 Spacing:2.50 kHz Offset:-0.9 MHz
  • Line 6 - FDMA Base:166.00000 Spacing:6.25 kHz Offset:-0.9 MHz
  • Line 7 - FDMA Base:136.00000 Spacing:6.25 kHz Offset: 0.9 MHz
  • Line 8 - FDMA Base:161.59375 Spacing:6.25 kHz Offset:-0.9 MHz

Now is that so hard?

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.
