Looking at the information, some of it appears incorrect, with regards to PL tone and / or channel useage, but it should get you started.

The Shelby hamfest - the largest in N.C. - will be Labor Day weekend ...

The Charlotte hamfest is recommended. It occupies a weekend around the beginning of March. Elkin (in Yadkin Co) has a hamfest, along with Winston-Salem ... also nearby you.

The ARRL maintains a database of hamfests they are aware of. Just plug in N.C. for the state and select "all" for the date to view upcoming events:

You also might want to check Virginia, due to your proximity to the border.

Yadkin Sheriff PL is definitely 151.4. As Jeff posted, some of the info is suspect, but the majority of it is correct. I can confirm the fire and sheriff freqs because I have those programmed into my own radios.

Buncombe County, North Carolina (NC) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

That is fairly accurate, all the main use things that are in use; there is also a 700 MHz trunked system that is in the works currently.

The Shelby hamfest is Labor Day weekend, the Charlotte hamfest was just a few weekends ago, Raleigh has RARSfest at some point among a few others.

Check Craigslist for the occasional radio deal and the RR classifieds as well.

No it does not. Same distracted-driving rules apply, don't mess with your scanner/gps/cellphone while driving to avoid any risks.

Yadkin Sheriff PL is definitely 151.4. As Jeff posted, some of the info is suspect, but the majority of it is correct. I can confirm the fire and sheriff freqs because I have those programmed into my own radios.

Yadkin Sheriff PL on their main dispatch frequency is 107.2. The old repeater of 154.740/155.535 with 151.4 has not been in service for several years. (Probably around 2005-2006). When this repeater was taken off the air, these 2 frequencies were added to the channel plan for Fire & EMS as simplex fireground channels using a PL of 85.4.

This change took place when fire and EMS consolidated to the same frequency and all law enforcement dispatch communications moved to the 155.385/159.405 repeater using 107.2.

90+% of all other frequencies listed in the database are correct as listed for Yadkin County. I live there and am actively involved in maintaining/servicing/programming for the majority of the public safety agencies in Yadkin County.
