There are adapters available from Heil Ham Radio that would allow the use of a desk mic ( or headset) with that radio. You'd have to inquire of Heil which of their desk microphones would be appropriate. The common Yaesu desk mics will not work. I've tried.

Ironic that Yaesu would market a new radio, and give no thought to their own accessories. Not surprising.

The M90 and MD100 have Modular plugs, not sure about the others.
Yes and they won't work correctly on the mobile series radios. If you have done it I'd like to see how you got past both the wiring and mic impedance mismatch. Not to mention the plug on the MD100 won't fit into any of the Yaesu mobiles I have.

I'll take your word for it, as I don't have the 3185. I'm not sure what Yaesu is thinking anymore, since they seem to have moved from C4FM radios back to Analog again.

Do you have any Yaesu mobile radio you were able to put the MD100 on?

That being asked, I agree with I don't have a clue what they're thinking either. Not especially due to coming out with a radio that doesn't have C4FM but just in general. 73.

I don't consider the 991a a mobile actually although it is one, also the post is referencing non HF or shack in the box radios. Yes I have one on my 991a and FT-450 also. I'm amazed it works on the 7250 however. Did the mic directly plug into the 7250? Does it sound ok when using it there ? Just curious.

Frankly, Yaesu should improve the C4FM radios they already have out. I use C4 FM twice a year for a simplex event we have. After extensive testing, the group I talk to has found out D-Star works way better especially for weaker signals when the Yaesu's don't even decode the signal. This is all simplex, only radio to radio. I personally don't do internet HF any more. Did it to help some friends out for a couple weeks that was enough for me.

Thanks and 73.

I tried it on the 7250 for a moment or two out of curiosity, and didn't talk to anyone with it. I'm not a big fan of desk mics due to the background noise.

I have a JDI desk mic I used with a Yaesu 2900. Sold the 2900 but still have the desk mic. It looks just like a Motorola desk mic and when I used it, it worked very well. 6 pin modular mic cord, but it needs a new cord, still works just split at the base.

Yaesu has never since the modular jacks came out had any desk mics available for the radios, at least that I'm aware of.

Both the M70 and M90 desk mics come with the modular connector leads…

The M90 and MD100 have Modular plugs, not sure about the others.

The Yaesu desk microphones all have double-ended cables and dual jacks that allow the use of a 8-pin plug, either the standard screw-in or an RJ45 modular plug. All the Yaesu mobile radios come with an RJ12 6-pin modular plug and jack. Hence the need for the adapters.

I have an MD-100 that I bought from a ham widow just to help her out. I don't even have a radio it will work on. Because I have the appropriate adapters, I tried it with a couple of different Yaesu mobile radios and it wouldn't work. It would trigger the PTT, but there was no audio passed to the radio. I don't know if it's because of the impedance mismatch or there is a wiring difference between the MD-100 and the standard Yaesu mobile microphones. I haven't investigated it further because I have a couple of headsets that work with the mobile radios.

Thanks , you just proved my point.
