haven't tried it out but the internet says the TX expand code is 62406665.

hold down ppt and the button below it while turning it on. enter the code on the keypad and it reboots with expanded TX frequencies.

has anyone tried to expand TX with the code on the FT-65R?

Picked one up this morning second hand. Can expand TX with the code and do factory reset to switch back.

YouTube video says this will only work on the European or Asian version of the FT-65. And if you're doing this in the US, it's illegal to transmit with the modified radio...

The one I picked up says "Model FT-65R" on the box and on the back of the unit under the battery. The box says DST: USA. The serial number on the box and on the radio match.
Not sure if that information helps any.

It doesn't matter whether you can do this with your US version FT-65R or not. The important thing is that if you can expand it's transmit, it's illegal by FCC regulation, to transmit with it anywhere but on the amateur bands.

It can be used for MARS or CAP, but you have to be authorized by those organizations to transmit on their frequencies, which basically means you have to be a member. MARS and CAP are not regulated by the FCC. Those are of course DOD frequency assignments. It would be the only legitimate reason I know of to open up for transmit outside the HAM bands.

MARS / CAP mods are useless according to a ham I know who is active in the CAP. Radios need to be narrow banded and they are mostly using P25. Of course, most people who make these mods are not actually involved with either organization.
