I was using the rig just a little while ago. I had it powered up
and tried to UNLOCK the head and reposition the mike cable
to the bottom instead of the side of the radio, while powered up.
The radio just shut down. I checked the 2 fuses on the power cord,
okay, the LDG Z-100 tuner and the LDG FT-Meter still work.

I have the radio hooked up to an Astron SS-25 and that is fine.

But the radio will not power up ?

Is there an INTERNAL FUSE ?

Help, thanks in advance,

Dave

Due to the age of this posting, I'm guessing the problem has either been solved or forgotten BUT since I've seen dozens of others reporting the same problem on the internet, I thought I'd post what happened to me tonight...

I just experienced the same problem; I disconnected the RJ-11 cable from my FT-857 control head to
clean something on the back and when I reconnected things, the radio wouldn't power on. Fuses were
fine, couldn't smell any smoke immediately....

Remembering my experience with Spectras and some other Motorola radios, I tried disconnecting the power cable / turning the PS off. Voila! Disconnecting the control head from a powered 857 seems to confuse the radio. I think this is also why most mobile users don't experience the problem. (since power
is often removed from the radio)
